The Rocket Summer – So, In This Hour... Lyrics 17 years ago
personally, i think this song could be like...maybe the last while before a man dies...maybe an hour, hence the title, "so, in this hour..."

it just seems like, this is the moment when he dies, and he goes to heaven and finally meets god...the first verse:

"So long before
you stood so long at my door
abundantly you have asked
have you received
is this everything that you've hoped for
is this everything you've dreamed
well im not sure
if don't really mean it"

is like when he's dying, and as the stories go, "you head towards the light", and goes to heaven, after spending his whole life as a good christian, and he wonders whether heaven is all it's been hyped up to be and everything he's been told it will be like...

the second verse, is maybe when he's at the point of death...all his memories and his life flashes before his eyes:

"Life and history repeated
I will see visions vividly
of how everything will end the same
is this everthing you've hoped for
is this everything you've dreamed
i want it to be
the real point is, see"

and how this same process happens to everyone, and everyone dies and will go through exactly the same as him...and as he realises this, he comes to notice that, maybe this IS heaven...and that, this one unity with god and all that, is what heaven really is, and not some sort of over-hyped, blissful utopia...maybe just being in god's presence is all it is...

the chorus:

"So, in this hour
everything i do
will be all for this moment
everything's for you
my heart is open
and willin'
so take it"

a basic summary, how he's led his life, and tried to do everything in god's name...and that he's willing to do whatever god asks of him, until the moment he dies.

then, i think the 3rd verse is where it really is...(this is also my favourite part):

"So much feeling
oh my soul is singing
and everybody feels the same
is this everything that you've hoped for
is this everthing you've dreamed
i think it is
the real point is, see"

this is when he truly realises, that this IS heaven, and this is really what his whole life has been leading up to...this one moment, or hour, of realisation...and so he is overflowing with just, inexplicable joy...a kind of enlightenment...and everyone else there is thinking the same...

"is this everything that you've hoped for
is this everthing you've dreamed
i think it is"

is his moment of realisation.

the last verse, i can't really tie in as well to the rest of the song...

"Stay in place
when theres so many things to say
i wanna help and not just hesitate
but i just don't
but i just don't
so please take my life and use it, I'm ready"

to me, it just seems like, now he's here in heaven...he wants to do something to maybe help god, or...be useful...but what he's done in his past life was all that was necessary...so he has nothing really to do, but as one final offering, he offers his life, and lets himself die to be with god...as he's realised what heaven is, and beacuse of that, he's ready to die.

sorry about that being so long-winded...but yeah, it just came to me one day when i was listening to it...and it all just hit me all at once...and in my head at least, it makes sense :P

i hope someone agrees with me anyway :P

but yes, this song live...is the most magical thing EVERRRRR. i mean, i may have been one of only 10 guys at one of his UK gigs (first in, last out :D )...and if you EVER have the chance, see him now...especially if you're in the UK, cos as Spazz_x said, the crowds are small, and the whole thing is just so amazing :)

that is all.

again, apologies for the length of this comment. :P
