and you will kill me by doing nothing but i know it's not you, my dear, i know it's not you i know it's not you, my dear, it's the nothing that kills This song is so amazingly beautiful. I like how this is kind of saying how it's not really her fault because she's being consumed by her destructive-ness. Thinking about the, "nothing" really gives meaning to this song. Just the idea of doing nothing, and eventually just becoming nothing. It does kill. It doesn't really talk about emotion like sadness...more just this nothing-ness. No happiness nor sadness, and you just let yourself get swept under. I also find this interesting: 'cause i've got to keep your head above the water while the current pulls me under Just that he has to get into it to really be able to help her. I kind of just imagine the "her" dirfting and not trying (consumed by her nothingness) while he would frantically be trying to save her, realizing entirely the seriousness of the situation at hand. It's dangerous to get involved with someone else's "currents" I suppose because emotions really rub off onto other people. He can't just leave her though. |

"Open wide, my door, My Lord, my Lord. Open wide, my door, to whatever makes me love you more" I don't think anyone has said anything about that part yet! It feels very prayer-esque to me, and it's a good thing to ask for. In this song he does sound a little "overwhelmed" I guess you could say. I just find it interesting that how within all of that he's still asking that he can love God more. Everyone else has gotten everything else pretty bang on though:) |

"we pray with fingers crossed but you listen patiently anyway" To me that's saying that sometimes we pray not really trusting that He is going to listen. We need to have trust in God that He's going to do what's right for us. Then the second line assures that He will still listen, even when we're not completely trusting that He's going to hear out our prayers. To me this goes hand in hand with: "you see my coins are counterfeit but accept them anyway" Even when we're not giving 100% to Him He doesn't disregard us. He knows we're not perfect of course. Makes me really think of how amazing His love is...that we can be so sinful and imperfect, but His love for us is undieing. |

| The reality part makes sense to me. Adjusting to life without her because before his reality was very much about and with her. God is helping him reach that. It's hard to accept something like that that flips your world upside down. | |
