The Human League – Seconds Lyrics 9 years ago
The song is about the assassination of JFK. This is well attested. No mystery about it.

New Order – Everything's Gone Green Lyrics 9 years ago
@[Strawsonian:11467] it's an impossible counterfactual, but had circumstances been different and had Joy Division made it to America, I believe they would have made it on to a par with the likes of Pink Floyd, the Rolling Stones and the Beatles. Artistically, they are giants, but I think they could have done in the very early 80s what REM and Nirvana did ten years later. They were certainly good enough.

New Order – Everything's Gone Green Lyrics 9 years ago
They were still transitioning away from being Joy Division. Even though it's hard to regard early New Order as the equal of peak Joy Division, Movement and the early singles still have incredible power in their own right. Arguably nothing New Order did was the equal of peak Joy Division, but that's hardly a slight on the band. In my view, Joy Division had a power that is unmatched by any other rock band.

The Smiths – Still Ill Lyrics 10 years ago
@[marquicerise:5335] many thanks for posting those sources. "Does the body rule the mind or does the mind rule the body? I dunno" is a peerless lyric. The conundrum at the heart of human attempts at self-understanding reduced to a single line.

Might the website you refer to be the Leonard Cohen Files?

Can we just clear up this sister/system question? Sister is correct (I've got the album and it's on the lyric sheet). However, unlike the lyrics above, it's "my sister" not "your sister". If you don't believe me, take a look at the following website, the Leonard Cohen Files, which Mr Cohen himself contributes to:

http://www.leonardcohenfiles.com/

Here, the relevant verse reads as follows:

I don't like your fashion business mister
And I don't like these drugs that keep you thin
I don't like what happened to my sister
First we take Manhattan, then we take Berlin

Above, losttango refers to a website that has gathered together Mr Cohen's comments on his own songs. I don't know if Leonard Cohen Files is that website, but I'll have a look and get back to you all.

Interpol – Take You on a Cruise Lyrics 17 years ago
Just a small correction. The word Misses in the line 'Would you like to be my Misses and in future with child?' should read Missus, which is English slang for wife. Paul Banks was born in England - in Clacton-on-Sea, according to Wikipedia.
