To me, this is probably the most beautiful and artistic song ever written about the painful struggle that is addiction to alcohol. I love--and hate, because I can relate to--so many lines in it. Doug Hopkins was a beautiful talent. "So I guess I must have just been dreaming When I thought I heard myself say no Anyway it looks like no one heard me so here I go" and... "You know before you start just how it's going to end" and... "I can't remember why I like this feeling When it only seems to let me down" ...are deeply personal to me. What an achingly beautiful song. |

| Oh and to "letmetellyou" - I do agree that artists intentionally make songs a little vague so that people can relate to them in their own way. To me, that's just another way that the art of music is a beautiful thing - we can all hear something that affects us. | |

This song is most definitely about an alcoholic. The music video shows frequent scenes of a man staring at a bottle, struggling not to drink it. If anyone wants to see it, I found the video on iTunes. And no, I'm not selling anything. I'm just a fan of the song (and someone who can personally relate to it) who was surprised to find t a video for this song and, I wanted to tell others who love this song where they can see it. The line about him being out there somewhere passed out on the floor and her wanting to tell him she's not angry anymore is so damn powerful and sad. Beautiful song. |
