that is correct, this is a robert song and like their other great tune Amelia Bright, is only available as a bootleg from the reinhold messner tour. International orange has recorded a version of this, just as Hotel Lights (darren jesse's band) has played and recorded Amelia Bright. I think this song is pretty clearly about a guy who is a lesser version of what he wants to be. he has the girl but then has these moments of conscience where he knows he's not treating her right and that there are all guys calling on her, whether it's in the bedroom or elsewhere. He can't take credit for the things she likes, he's just trying to be like those other guys. He's not the nicest dude, theres this prince charming out there with all these plans and knowledge for seducing women and it's killing him. "Don't bother me Prince Charming, I'm busy, I'm busy, I'm busy" but he can't drown out his conscience, he can't hide the fact that he knows she deserves better and that someday a Prince Charming will come along and wake her up to make her realize that. |

a guy who hates himself for not being to treat women the way they deserve to be treated. as previously noted, the arrangement and production of this song are absolutely flawless. starting so soft, leaving us hanging on with the drifting violin solo, the menacing bass and then sending us out with the full drum set and dissonant harmonies. helena, don't waste your pretty sympathy on me, go and tell her anything you want, guys like us never sleep alone at night. i'll always be just fine. just fine. i'm out of what was a long run of being a player. john mayer's assassin nails this feeling too. i don't have huge regrets, i don't wish i could do it all over, i don't have the time for that kind of self pity. did i have some fun? absolutely, it's a blast being an asshole and having a different girl every week. but it ends, like everything must, and now i have this weight to carry with me and a list of great girls who i didn't treat right. i can't bitch about them being with tools and settling for less, because they were doing that with the guy i used to be too. |

| is it just me, or does this song sound like a requiem to pangea from the first album? it's really straightforward lyrically, but it really feels like in pangea, their world went splitting apart and now he has to find some contellation to steer himself back on a course more concurrent with her. the outro 'start a riot, we all start a riot' seems like part of pangea cutting in, and the rest of the song keeps going like even though a little chaos comes, he's still trying to piece it together, to navigate and steer by stars he trusts. make any sense at all? | |
