Anberlin – The Runaways Lyrics 17 years ago
Amazing, this hits close to home. Picture this..

Guy meets girl, girl likes guy, guy likes girl. They start talking. Guy wants more, girl won't be more than friends, but girl and guy act like more than friends through kissing, holding hands, etc. Guy knows girl, girl is in love with another guy, most-likely an ex. Guy realizes this, is scared of what will happen, so many 'what if's.' Fortunately, he has the sense to walk away and let her deal with the ex/bf, even if it hurts original girl/guy, it's for the best.

If only it were so easy.

Daphne Loves Derby – Cue The Sun Lyrics 17 years ago
"If I find my way through the darkest of days,
Will I laugh about the things that kept me awake?"
The singer is going through a difficult time - from the tone of the song, it's safe to say a failing relationship is to blame. He has a lot on his mind, most-likely over-analyzing things, asking what if questions, searching in vain for answers to questions that may not even need to be asked.

"But if my greatest fear paints itself so crystal clear,
Will I run away or will I hide?"
Something seems to stand out in his mind as the cause of everything and only adds to the confusion. He's afraid that the truth will be realized and, unfortunately, match what he's thought all along - she's seeing someone else, whether it be an ex, new fling.. we're left to guess. When that happens, he's not sure how he will react.

"And if I don't come home tonight,
Just know I tried my best to fight.
Please don't think I plan to lose to the night"
At this point, he's letting her know that if they are no longer together, he did his best to save what they had. The third line hints that he plans to keep trying despite what happens, though it will most-likely be a wasted effort.

"And curse the moon so dull and bright,
My heavy soul can't stand the light.
It burns me straight to the bones, my bones"
The moon is most-likely the girl - he can only think about the good times, the reasons he likes her which results in his heavy soul - he's going to miss her and all of the oddities and experiences they shared. Burning straight to the bones is another way of saying he has deep regret and will mill her.

"In the desert sun I watched my nerves come undone.
One by one my strings they tangled into knots."
The desert sun implies loneliness since there is nothing to be found in such a barren place. This girl was probably his best friend, in addition to his lover. They probably shared everything with each other, save for the parts that were their undoing, which were most likely on her end. Tangled strings is most likely referring to his stomach and the feeling someone gets when someone they care for is pulled away.

"And ever since that day, deep in Santa Fe.
I've learned to hate myself for giving everything away."
The location is negligible - it sounds like he cut things off to save himself further heartache, or he risked prolonging it by staying/pursuing her; however, the chorus that follows once again and is reiterated at the end implies that he will continue to pursue her, even if it's not directly.

This song is melancholy, both in beat and verse. It makes one think about past times as most people go through something like this at some point in their lives. When a relationship reaches a certain point, it's best if the hurting person lets go - it will ease the pain, though it may be a lot at first, it will gradually fade. In the meantime, the other person can see what the "new" (possibly new, possibly an ex) interest yields and probably forget about the singer. It can go many ways from here, from the two never speaking again to the girl realizing she made a mistake - only time will tell.

Shout Out Louds – Normandie Lyrics 17 years ago
The first verse throws me off, but I'd have to agree with Lisa - it probably refers to someone after a one-night stand. It also hints at an anxious or nervous feeling, which has a tendency to cause sweating. Shortly after, a "blistering headache makes me wanna quit" - in other words, this isn't his first one-night stand.

"Now it's said and done, so say goodbye to the people we don't know." refers to the act being over with goodbye being a finality. In other words, he wouldn't want to see her, the person he's singing the song to, or the one-night stands, again. "Go back to sleep and lets sail away to the beaches of Normandie" seems to imply that he wants to sleep and dream to be alone - the reasons behind this are potentially many, from being alone with his thoughts, thinking of happier times or just getting away.

"The lights are blinding my eyes." makes a reference to the sunrise or perhaps those while he's out, presumably downtown or in a club - I'd lean toward the latter since the next lines say

"Are you unhappy, I am unhappy too.
Your neck smells just like her's did.
Do you want someone,
are you lonely too - are you?"

It almost looks like a pickup attempt, or something he's saying in his head when meeting/trying to pick up a girl. Maybe he senses she has no one, just like himself, and the fact she reminds him of someone from his past makes her that much more attractive.

"Too many secrets, too many nights,
I should have called, where have I been all night?" at this point he's reminiscing of the person he still has feelings for and the things they went through. From the sound of it, he lied about where he was going in nights past while they had a relationship. He's regretting this in a way saying he should have called then answering a rhetorical question by saying "where have I been all night?"

"I gave up sleep just to find your name,
you stayed home, I should have done the same."
The first line implies he went out on the town looking for a girl like the one he had. In the meantime, she didn't look for anyone and, hindsight being 20/20, he wishes he too stayed home.

Overall, the song has a catchy beat. It seems like whoever is singing is tired and looking for something that he won't find while regretting the one that got away.
