The lead singer of SPS wrote this song while his mom was fighting breast cancer. She survived and made a full recovery. "I talk to God just to see if he's listening, I hope he's not listening to me" I think that part discribes how a lot of us feel in regards to religion. We feel like we want help from God or someone of a higher power, but we hope the can't hear or see all the terrible things we do on a day to day basis, and we feel guilty for...or maybe that we sometimes doubt the belief of a God when we see a loved one suffer. "And I'm down, down on my knees in the rain I thought I could change everything" People realize how tough life is and sometimes hit a breaking point where they realize they just can't do it on their own. |

yep. this song is very sad. one of my best friends dated josh up until a few weeks before he quit the band, and she was crying when they played this song at their cd release show. the song is pretty self explanitory. they are basically admitting they miss both of these guys, but life will go on. Sequoyah Prep School recently lost their keyboard player as the were recording this album this song will be on. They have told me personally that they wrote a song about it situation. I could be wrong, but this seems like it could be the one. Or atleast somewhat inspired by that incendent. The first verse says a lot in my opinion. "I used to have a friend, to know when I was old I used to let him sleep at my house, on the couch when he got cold" He had built up a strong friendship and offered everything to this person "He died on my birthday, yeah he died on my birthday" This line is really powerful. The friend didn't literally die on his birthday...Birthdays are supposed to be happy and a time of celebration. It also represents a time of new beginning. The friend 'died', or left, him at the happiest/peak time in his life. Maybe the friend betrayed him. He feels like this person basically bailed on him at a high point in his life. He doesnt want this person to leave, but the friend feels like it is the best thing to do. He claims it's "too late" to try to save what they had. "I'm changing your mind, but you're breaking my heart I did everything I could not to tear you apart" He is bitter towards this person for leaving him "But you don't care, you said it's too late to stay I didn't want you to go But you're leaving anyway" But the friend doesnt seem to care and leaves him. Again all this is just speculation/my personal opinion =) |

the actual lyrics are "Like a hurricane Spinning around And *I'LL FIND* the ground When it all falls down Like a hurricane" this is one of my favorite songs of all time also. it's just so beautiful. it's almost like i lose myself in the song everytime i hear it. to me, it's about having someone so powerful in your life. not powerful in a definite good or a bad way, just powerful and strong enough to change around everything you know. they come into your life and sweep you up like a 'hurricane' and when it's over leave you totally helpless. |

for anyone who didnt know, highway 501 is a highway here in south carolina that connects florence (sequoyah prep school's hometown) to myrtle beach. to me this song is about someone in a relationship that keeps screwing up. the person keeps getting frustraited and leaving (both emotionally and physically) thinking it is over, but they simply can't bring themselves leave for good. "She says why do you do what you do I can’t always come back to you I don’t know why I do what I do But I’ll always come back to you" but it also seems like here at the end the person is trying to decide if they should leave for good.
