The Smashing Pumpkins – The Boy Lyrics 16 years ago
... why would they mix the high synths/piano over the drums? Only problem with this song. Still, great song.

Company of Thieves – Oscar Wilde Lyrics 16 years ago
From the compact, layered guitars, to the singer's perfect overbite [á la Anita O'Day], to the exact drumming, this is a great song; it's one of the year's best songs, in fact.

The National – Patterns of Fairytales Lyrics 16 years ago
It's contrasting Mary Magdeline, a prostitute in the Bible, and the month of May, which is known as an innocent month, the birth of spring, etc.

The Van Pelt – Nanzen Kills A Cat Lyrics 17 years ago
Stream of consciousness, I suppose, though there may be a meaning.

It's a great jam.

The Presidents of the United States of America – Peaches Lyrics 17 years ago
The song references the chorus of a 1971 John Prine song, "Spanish Pipedream":

Blow up your T.V. throw away your paper.
Go to the country, build you a home.
Plant a little garden, eat a lot of peaches.
Try and find Jesus on your own.

Of course, the song obviously turns "eating peaches" into an obvious euphemism.

Twothirtyeight – The Bathroom Is a Creepy Place for Pictures of Your Friends Lyrics 17 years ago
This song paints a really surreal picture in your mind, and I think that is its purpose.

The Smashing Pumpkins – Ma Belle Lyrics 17 years ago
It seems to be about a man throwing fatalism to the wind and trying to be with someone no matter what, because "There is no place I'd rather be."

Excellent drumming/guitar, and it really takes off around the 2:40 mark--it's one of those songs that'll make you press down on the gas pedal harder without meaning to do so. It's a great song, and I think it could have easily replaced some of the other songs released on Zeitgeist, rather than being a b-side.

Woo, first comment on a great song!

I don't want to comment on the meaning of the entire song. However, one line strikes me as particularly beautiful:

"i know i did the wrong mistake again."

Given the choice of two mistakes, you chose the one that you thought would be worth making, only to find out you've suffered and sighed for nothing. I just think that's a very beautiful way of saying it.
