I'm still making my own determinations as to the intended meaning of the lyrics (pro versus anti-American sentiment, although I suspect there is a good amount of sarcasm, here) but I'd like to say that, being from the United States, I wish Europeans could drop the xenophobic predatory front just long enough to give us a chance to show that we can be people of character and compassion. Unfortunately I think that a lot of this attitude is derived of ignorance and lack of education, not that there is an absence of that in any civilization on this rock we call Earth. |

That's because it's what gets ratings and, therefore, what gets filmed. If you think that what is put on television is any kind of valid source or representation of a person, place or thing then you are the one that is mental. |

Relationships are all about give and take. Compromises. He touches alot on these issues in the beginning of the song. It feels a bit one sided however. As if he feels that he is getting more taken from him than he is receiving. Daydreaming of a day when the girl will slow down and some form of equality will be present in the relationship. He is certainly in agony, you can hear it in his voice. There is a certain sense of one attempting to put a square block into a circular hole. And yet he hangs on. The best part (for me) to this song is the climax of frustration that he is getting to in the end "You're looking alright tonight, I think we should go!". If you are a man, as I am, and have ever been in a relationship, you will recognize instantly that this is simply a reference to the waiting game we play while waiting for girlfriend/wife to get ready.. reassuring that they look alright and saying, "we should go". The strength in these final lines is not in the words themselves but in that they represent the emotional pot boiling over. The final straw is breaking and all of the aforementioned problems are coming to a head in this seemingly trivial moment. |
