Belle & Sebastian – Piazza, New York Catcher Lyrics 17 years ago
Hrmm... this song does have a lot of gay references. While it could obviously be a relationship between a man and a woman, it could also be a closet relationship between two men.

"Miss Private", could refer to a gay lover, who is in the closet.

"Pagan holidays", could be a reference to holidays that do not condemn homosexuality.

"Elope with me in private and we’ll set something ablaze", seems like another reference to their private relationship.

"We hung about the Tenderloin",Tenderloin had one of the first gay neighborhoods in San Francisco

"Heroine pretend", can reference a guy who is the "girl" in the relationship.

As well, there are alot of other references that have been stated a lot.

NOFX – She's Gone Lyrics 17 years ago
Growing up with both parents and everyone I knew being a heroin/coke/meth addict, I can tell you this song has a lot of parental drug use references.

A blackened wick is what remains
The flame was blown out just recently
Although the candle hadn't burned down to the stick
It won't be lit again, the day won't be so bright

--While this is a reference unexpected death, it's also a reference to drug use. The candle isn't lit again, and it's not burnt all the way means someone died and will never be back again to lite the candle. Also, when you cook heroin or coke having a candle lit is a lot easier then using a lighter all the time.

We don't know what she may have been
All we know is what she left behind
An apartment cluttered with children's toys,
Photos of good times

-- She was a parent and probably a nice person. She kept photographs.

In the bedroom, there's sheets on the windows
There's a four poster bed for a reason

-- If you've ever been in a crackhouse, the windows are always covered because people get really paranoid when high. The four poster bed can be a reference to drugs, or prositiution. Which are usually hand in hand. You'll sleep with someone for crack/heroin.

There's a box on the floor full of secrets
It won't be opened

--The box is a reference to drugs. Usually cigar boxes were kept around the house with needles, pipes, lighters, etc... Since they died, it won't be open again, just as the candle won't be lit again.

Here older boys and girls would play
All inhibitions were left behind
As the door would close, her face began to shine
This was her finest hour, this was her finest time

--This sounds like a prostitution reference, but getting high, and having sex was probaby something she was good at, and enjoyed.

Now, she's gone, and it's not gonna be alright, not for me
She's gone, but not forgotten, she's still here

-- She was a friend and will always be remembered

In all those years she touched so many lives
Who's gonna watch the little girl she left behind?

--Reference to her kid, and the her personality.

Carol Anne stands alone in the school yard
All the other children have gone
After waiting for hours,
She can't understand why her mother left her sad

--The was at school when her mom died, and doesn't understand her death.

In the darkness she sees definition
In the silence, she hears someone calling
After nightmares, she lies in bed screaming
But there's no reaction
There's no one listening, there's no one
Now, she's gone, and it's never gonna be alright, not for me,
She's gone

--Touch on the sad fact of a kid having their partent die at a young age, and being alone.

I think there's a point to be made. Drug addicts are not always horrible people, but in a horrible situation. Both of my parents were really nice people for the most part, and did the best they could for their kids, but it still sucks they were drug addicts and had kids. My mom's best friend OD'd with a kid that was 11, and had no dad, and he had to live with us. He was a tough kid, but would often wake up in the middle of the night crying. Reminds me of this song.

NOFX – Dig Lyrics 17 years ago
That is true about the song lyrics RobotRock. Where would Americans be without capitalism? There is a lot of answers for that, but probably belongs on a political forum. I think a better question is where would Native Americans be without capitalism? I think the term "fucked over" is better known as genocide. Numerous languages, cultures and an entire race wiped out, but it happened in america, so we just shrug.

NOFX – Kill Rock Stars Lyrics 17 years ago
Somethings that haven't been mentioned yet:

"Kill the rock stars" how ironic, Kathleen
You've been crowned the newest queen
-- This is stating that Bikini Kill and Kill rock stars were very anti-pop/rockstar, and later on Kathleen Hanna is what some would consider a rockstar in Le Tigre. She is on the cover of magazines, etc...

Kinda like the punk rock Gloria Steinemm
You can't change the world by blaming men
Can't change the world by hating men

--Gloria Steinem is a popular feminist

NOFX – Linoleum Lyrics 17 years ago
I don't think it's specifically about a "bum" or "homeless person", but more about street kids. If you every see the kids who have a bunch of patches, and have dirty black clothes, and a dog asking for change. Those are street kids. They purposely do not participate in society by having jobs, or owning anything other than what they have on their back. Most of them have a dog, and guitar or violin, etc...

NOFX – I'm Telling Tim Lyrics 17 years ago
Yes, again, Nexus7 has hit the nail on the head. This song is not about Rancid, or Green day. It's referring to Tim from MRR, and the venue ABC. Read some old Maximum Rock & Roll and George Tabb columns, they're amazng. ;)

NOFX – Dying Degree Lyrics 17 years ago
This song is about working all of your life. Some people work really hard to ensure they have a nice life, but they work so hard that they forget how to live, and all their life turns out to be is just work. Would you rather spend your whole life working and cutting corners to have money, or spend the money you have on nice things, and have fun every once in awhile. Anyone stuck in a working class job knows how this can consume your life, and just work until you get old. It sucks.

NOFX – All His Suits Are Torn Lyrics 17 years ago
I think it's about someone who lost their mind and committed suicide. Everyone (especially in a scene) has probably known a "Billy Cobin". A guy in the background who doesn't know everyone, and isn't really a known person, but is still around. Reminds me of my ex-girlfriends brother, because when we were growing up he was a regular guy, but was diagnosed with schizophrenia in his early 20's. He was really talented too, and could've been a great muscian. Of course no one know's his name now-a-days. These "Billy Cobin's" are all around us.
