Agree with the above. "I know you suffered But I don't want you to hide It's cold and loveless I won't let you be denied" She's suffered in the past in relationships, but doesn't want her to shut everyone off. Its saying that I know that where you are right now is cold and loveless, but it doesn't have to be that way and I can change that. "Soothe me I'll make you feel pure Trust me You can be sure" I'll take away the pain, and you can trust that I won't hurt you. "I want to reconcile the violence in your heart I want to recognize your beauty is not just a mask I want to exorcise the demons from your past I want to satisfy the undisclosed desires in your heart" There is violence in her heart, to the point where past pain has driven her to push everyone away through whatever means necessary in order to not be hurt. Even with all of that, she is still an incredible person and has amazing inner beauty. Exorcise the demons: Help her trust and love again and be able to look back without feeling pain. Satisfy the undisclosed desires (can be taken sexually, of course), but I think that this speaks to him understanding that in her heart she craves more but is to scared to allow those desires to love and closeness to be disclosed to anyone. "You trick your lovers that you're wicked and divine You may be a sinner But your innocence is mine" She acts both ways. At times, she'll open herself up a little bit and allow someone in, and they'll see the 'divine' side of her. But, more often she keeps her mask up, and that mask is of a carefree 'wicked' girl. Her actions lead people to believe she is a sinner (by the puritan definition), but he understands that it is all an act she puts up to try and keep people away. "Please me Show me how it's done Tease me You are the one" Again, this could be taken sexually. But, it can be taken in another way as well. 'Please me, show me how it's done' - Make me happy, open yourself up, show me who you really are.. 'Tease me, you are the one' - She is teasing him by letting her guard down a little bit at a time, and even through those small cracks in her armor he can tell that she is the one. |

| Dashboard Confessional – Dusk and Summer Lyrics | 15 years ago |

See, I will agree that its not about a summer romance, but I don't think its necessarily about death or sickness either. "She smiled in a big way, the way a girl like that smiles When the world is hers and she held your eyes Out in the breezeway down by the shore in the lazy summer And she pulled you in, and she bit your lip, and she made you hers She looked deep into you as you lay together quiet in the grasp of dusk and summer" Condensed, they meet, he becomes intrigued and cannot look away, they become friends, start hanging out. I don't think one must take the "Pulled you in, and she bit your lip" part literally: It could be a figurative use of language to imply than he is speechless around her because she has 'bit his lip,' he's just dumbstruck that someone like her would spend time with him. "But you've already lost When you only had barely enough to hang on" He knows, however, that no matter what he does he isn't going to get what he wants - a relationship. He knows that this friendship is just barely there, and that it won't evolve into mutual love and it will remain one-sided. "And she combed your hair, and she kissed your teeth And she made you better than you'd been before She told you bad things you wished you could change in the lazy summer And she told you, laughing down to her core, so she would not cry as she lay in your lap She said "nobody here can live forever, quiet in the grasp of dusk and summer"" When he's with he strives to be a better person in every way he can. He feels that she makes him a better person, as she is so complete and amazing that he actually 'feeds' off her her virtues and values and becomes better. She also trusts him, and lets her guard down and shares with him things that have happened in her past. Maybe an ex screwed her over, maybe her parents were never around or didn't care, maybe a parent died when she was young? And, as she told him this, she was trying not to give in and just let the pain out, so she said it comically 'laughing down to her core' to try and retain some facade of strength. And at end, she says 'nobody here can live forever...', meaning that as much he has helped her and been there for her she cannot stay, she cannot take that next step, she cannot go on with him. "She said, "no one is alone the way you are alone" And you held her looser than you would have if you ever could have known Some things tie your life together, slender threads and things to treasure Days like that should last and last and last" She makes a comment about how lonely he appears, as he isn't doing stuff with other friends and just kind of waits until she wants to do something/needs something. He 'holds her loose', and finally just snaps after being taken advantage of for so long and says something, which upsets her. But, her comment was taken the wrong way, and in actuality she was starting to realize what he meant to her, so if he had reacted differently things may have worked out. At the end of the day however, they will always have the friendship and closeness they shared as 'threads' tying them together, and if only that 'day' could of lasted things would have been wonderful. Instead, 'night' happened, 'night' being the miss communication that ended any chance of a relationship, and how if it had never happened their 'day', the closeness they shared would still be going and would have lasted for a long time. |

| Staind – Outside Lyrics | 17 years ago |

and you bring me to my knees again all this time that I could beg you please in vain all the times that I felt insecure for you and I leave burdens at the door (Lewis is saying that this person (she?) has the ability to make him beg. He cares so much for her, He will do anything for her, he Loves her so much that he is always worrying about her, he always cares for her, but everyone once in awhile he is able to leave his feelings (burdens) at the door and see her for what she is) (Chorus) I’m on the outside. I’m looking in. I can see through you. See your true colors. 'Cause inside you’re ugly. You’re ugly like me. I can see through you. See to the real you. (From where he sits, when angry and/or drunk, he can finally see the real her. She's not perfect, she's not the person he's made her out to be in his heart. She is, in fact, very ugly once you look past her beautiful exterior. And, even though he realizes this very early on, a large part of him refuses to believe it for a long time, hence all the of pain, tears, and abuse he goes through.) (Annoying Fred Durst stuff, shove the lighters up your ass Fred) All this time, that I felt like this won’t end. Was for you. And I taste, what I could never have. It’s from you. All those times, that I tried, My intentions, full of pride And I waste, more time than anyone (He's saying that he's tried so hard, for so long, to be with her, but it just has not happened. He's tried everything, has spent nights crying himself to sleep over her, as he has come to realized he has "wasted more time than anyone" on trying to be with her) (Chorus) I’m on the outside I’m looking in I can see through you See your true colors 'Cause inside you’re ugly You’re ugly like me I can see through you See to the real you All the times, that I’ve cried All that’s wasted, it’s all inside And I feel, all this pain Stuffed it down, it’s back again And I lie, here in bed All alone, I can’t mend And I feel, Tomorrow will be okay But I know.. (He's finally realized that she's not the angel which she is in his heart. She has caused him so much pain, so many tears, that she simply cannot be the person he loves. He's tried to get over her time and again, but everytime he comes close something reminds him of her. Finally, her realizes that the only way to move on is to confront her, share his feelings, and receive the closure he needs to move on.) (Chorus) That I’m on the outside I’m looking in I can see through you See your true colors Cause inside you’re ugly You’re ugly like me I can see through you See to the real you |
