I think its about grieving over someone close to them who has died. their death has been a huge emotional blow and has lead to them suffering bad dreams (within which the dead friend appears to them) and general abnormalities that develop because of these issues. The second part of the song discusses the idea of improving yourself and getting better again - moving on from the grief. It then goes on to say that the most likely outcome of the current situation is that they will end up becoming an alcoholic, however they would prefer that to being sedated, i.e. being incarcerated in a mental institute. If the subject did end up in an institute they would then lose all that they had learnt as a result of their treatment, which is something they didnt want to consider. It talks about how if verbal communication fails, then a physical alternative is the way forward. The last part + chorus I don't really get. The main message is that no matter what happens in your life, you have the ability to get over it and that, no matter what, the most important thing is to value the lessons you've learnt, and to never forget their valuable education. |

The actual story/cotent of the song is merly their to emotionally engage you and get you to focus on what the song is about - effective, no? |
