i definitely agree to this sounding like Sound Effects yess that's what i first thought. but the meaning itself, i don't think of it as a relationship that started badly, just a relationship Bert needs to let go he's telling himself all this stuff to ease the pain rather than it actually working. like "i could forget" rather than "i will" or "i did" i don't think he really can and "you never got me" i think he's also trying to tell himself and convince himself that it wasn't that great when really it was but that's just my take on it. and i don't really wanna start arguments on here, they're all just opinions. |

Sanity-shockarist you're completely wrong. Gerard and Lyn-Z began dating a few WEEKS befour they got married in 2007 on Projekt Rev. They knew each other a few years back when MCR opened for MSI don't believe me, look it up. LOOK UP THE LYRICS ON THE USED'S PAGE it's "your sin" sorry, but you're once again wrrng. this song was written in 2004 meaning it OBVIOUSLY could've been about Gerard considering if you look up he got married in 2007. and there's an interview of Jepha and Quinn saying this song is about sex with a dude and seriously, Bert wouldn't go that deep with the metaphors. it's about gay sex with Gerard. end.of.story. |

i think these lyrics are absolutely beautiful and the meaning is much more metaphorical than some of their other stuff. this song is definitely about a change in his life. could it be due to leaving the Morman religion, or falling in love ?? honestly i think it's about both. "free from the torment of sin all this i'm giving up" he could be saying he's free because he left the religion, or free because he's no longer pained by the burden of sinning. as for the refrain, "it's not me burried wreckage my soul, it's not me so who am i now" i think he's saying that this new person he is either the fallen in love or left the religion is someone completely different, but who is that person ?? he's attempting to figure that out. When getting completely shunned from a religion, you're "soul" or so it could feel like feels like wreckage, and in a sense you give up a lot when falling in love. "over and over again light with a sharpened edge cuts through the black empty space we call sky" i think he's saying something great and powerful which is the light is finally making it's way through the black and lost life Bert was living. and it has a sharpened edge because it is something that is rather important and big but also with an edge enough to leave an impact, like leaving a religion or falling in love. "is there another side behind the black and white place i could meet you by a place on the other side, i'll let you know when i go, when i'm gone." this part is the part that's confusing me the most but i think it's like whoever it is he's with he can now talk to about what he's done, on the side he's living now, beyond the black and white as the light with the sharpened edge had cut through all withen a metaphor, of course. |

personally, i think this song is written in the third person. Bert and his parents never really did get along and it i think this is the shit his parents said to him when they kicked him out at sixteen. "you will burn in hell, they say" that's what they're telling him "father touched you with the hands of God." meaning he got vey religious on him up to the point where Bert couldn't take it "he's gripping tighter." Bert rebelled from the Morman religion so this could be how he took himself for it. |

ohkay, this song's about gay sex with no one else but Gerard Way. "when the pants came off an i turned you over." there is your absolute proof, i really shouldn't say more, but i will back myself up and a long winded explanation. ohkay it's also about meth, we all know Bert was quite the drugie back in the day, and Gerard and him got drunk together, so i mean two horny drunk dudes are willing to do basically anything, add crystal methanphetemine into the mix then they're fucked, literally. "haven't seen him smile in a while" Gerard wasn't exactly the happiest person back then, when all fucked up on drugs and getting some severe pleasure, he's gonna smile. you can hear Jepha screaming "this is not your smile" meaning the smile does not really belong to Gerard but of the drugs messing with his system. Bert is of course known to refer to himself in the third person but if this were the case, then this song would be about masterbation and who would turn themselves over during masterbation ?? the point of view switches much too often for that theory to be accurate. and honestly i'm not overanalyzing this song in the least bit, i'm going with my initial reactions and the people who associated with Bert and fucked around with him at the time. to the people unwilling to accept the fact that this song isn't about gay sex, realize that if him and a girl did do it anally, i doubt he would have put it in there, and uh why exactly would they switch places ?? i doubt there was a strap on involved and if there were i'd think there'd be a verse along the lines of "and the strap came over" or something of that nature. |

alright honestly and truthfully, this is what i think. and i'm pretty sure it's right. this song is about Gerard Way. example a. Gerard was the guy he messed around with during this time. don't believe me ?? well then watch Q&A with Bert and Gerard. plus stuff likee "such a softer sin" it is a sin to be with a guy you know... example b. he's never seemed to be in love with a guy before, and after Kate, it's like learning to love again, you know ?? like refinding it. "why cuts aren't healing" i think that means his wounds from the previous love are yet to be healed, because he's falling in love all over again. another example (sorry it's not really in order of the song) "could we dim the sun and wonder where we've been." to me, that sounds like a hangover, lights are so bright you want them gone and you never really know what happened the night before. "we take our heads off stay in bed, just make love that's all" i think that's saying we could forget about all the worries and stuff and just use our boddies for the moment, the only sexual refrence i'm really seeing in this to be honest. "like my first time that i caught fire" that's just another line convincing me to believe that it's falling in love again but with another person, i think the first one was Kate and now this is Gerard. Bert and Gerard did have a breakup, there is no doubt in my mind about it. I'm not some crazy slashobsessed fangirl when i'm writing all this. The evidence is all RIGHT HERE. you just need to know how to read it. and after they "broke up" or stopped talking, whatever, The Used stopped playing this song live. think about it. but this is all just in theory.... |
