| I've heard this in concert a few times, and every time they play this, Ben always starts to talk about Steven Harper ("Forget Bush, the man you really need to worry about is Steven Harper"). I can see where people see relationships, but I see this more as a political song talking about how the government lies to us, and uses the news to manipulate us. I get this as a MacBeth sort of song. At the end when Macbeth has the epiphany and looks back on his life, this is that moment (of course this is much much much less philosophical). looking at the start of his rule, to the decline in kindness towards his subjects and his contemplation of the afterlife. Finally a decent coldplay song that has sensical lyrics. |

I have alwats seen this as a love song purely. I think the first part up to the first chorus perfectly describe me when I am in love: Way too much talking, and extremes in emotions. The chorus "nothing's gonna change my world" is just that wanting to hold onto that great feeling |

I think the idea behind this song is that Chris just wants someone to talk to him while he's feeling all lonely and depressed. He's desperate, he doesn't even need them to be at all friendly with him, he doesn't need their love. All he wants is to know he has their company. What if it's about not being able to ever realy fit in Never had the same toys, fit the style with ripped jeans but never had it all (like the skateboards), and now that he's older everyones into drugs and he can't do fit in there either. Thats how I've always taken it anyways. |
