I couldn't have said it better! Two lovers discussing a baseball game to avoid the heavier topic of their inevitable future breakup. Mike Piazza was probably the greatest hitting catcher of all-time. Lots of people thought he is/was gay, so this song cracks me up. |

just watched the new "Joy Division" documentary, and Bernard Sumner said that Ian wrote the song before he knew he was epileptic. Just thought I'd differentiate this from my previous post. |

One more thought on "stabbing yourself in the neck" could be that he thinks that she's going to regret her decision to break up, and this is a metaphor for the regret she'll feel. |

My interpretation is that this is about an ex-girlfriend that he still has feelings for. "Capping the old times" for him would be a good thing, but not necessarily for her, so she "packs them away". "She makes her way into my little heart, gets in my room and she tears it apart" - He can't stop thinking about her, but I think he's the one tearing his room apart - just blaming it on her. "It's in the way that she poses" - he's looking at photographs. "Her stories are boring and stuff, she's always calling my bluff" - he probably got caught ignoring her quite often, so she would call him on it, and he would make up excuses, or try to repeat what she said but she could tell he wasn't really listening. Being "poor and aging", and "never see this place again" most likely means that he's afraid that he'll be past his prime, and won't have another shot at someone like her. As far as "stabbing yourself in the neck" goes, I don't know if he's considering suicide, or if she had threatened it. It could have been a gesture she used to make to him in certain situations. That's my .02 |

| The Allman Brothers Band – In Memory Of Elizabeth Reed Lyrics

Dickey Betts was having an affair with a famous musician's wife, and slept with her in the Rose Hill cemetary one night. He looked at the nearest headstone and it was Elizabeth Reed's. The wife was Latina, so he gave the song a latin sound. As far as the famous musician, I'm not telling, cuz I don't know if he ever found out. |

In "Control" the new Ian Curtis/Joy Division movie, they made it appear that he wrote this about the girl with epilepsy AFTER (not before) he found out that he was epileptic. He was working in the employment office, and helped the girl find a job before he knew he had it. He then learned that he had epilepsy, and called to see how whe was doing at her new job and learned of her death from a seizure. He was in shock to hear that someone could die from one. The next scene shows him writing the song. I don't know if this is historically accurate, but I thought I'd contribute the info. |
