I know after reading myatl's post that this isn't the "real" meaning of the song. But for me, it's about a breakup that happened for the wrong reason. You know the person will come back to you, because you're perfect for each other. So you'll wait for him/her, because they're worth it.
Beautiful song. :) |

I wish the guy I'm in love with felt like this.
I feel like I'm the girl who seems perfect, but the guy still won't fall for her. |

What if God weren't perfect? That kind of scares me. What if he isn't actually this awesome guy who we think he is? Then what do we do? It's just something new. |

I don't know. I just think this song is honest, that's all. It kind of questions the idea that everyone has someone they were made for. And I like it. |

I really like this song. I get that Britney is fake or whatever, but i mean it HAS been five years since the last comment before this one was posted. I don't know what I think about Britney the person, because I haven't read or heard that much about her. I really like this song though. Think about it, the song itself isn't fake, no matter whether she is or not. The person who wrote it is real, and Britney gave that person a voice.
There isn't anything deep to say about the "meaning" of this song, though. It's just a girl who's lucky. Kind of. |

| Jason Mraz – If It Kills Me Lyrics

"a kind much closer than friends use"--that really struck me. Friends (at least girls, i'm not sure about guys) are always like, "____, I LOVE you!" and maybe the singer (aka Mraz) was told this by the girl he's singin to. That line really gets to me.
Random thought: this song, if sung by a girl, could be interpreted as a lesbian who falls for her (female) friend, but can't say it. Change the word "boyfriend" to "girlfriend" in the first verse, and it could be a guy in the same scenario. Might not be what Mraz meant, but something to think about. |

I guess i'm just weird but this song doesnt make me happy...it kind of makes me sad. i dont know why, considering the fact that the lyrics are so inspiring. but its kind of melancholt to me.
ps i was reading te posts from circa 2005--a word of advice: don't start your post with the words YOU ARE ALL WRONG I KNOW ABOUT THE BEATLES BECAUSE [insert argument here]. This doesn't help. |

| John Mayer – No Such Thing Lyrics

okay i have more to say now. this song gives me a music high.
also, i would like to tell everyone that im in eighth grade, and my school is quite small so i dont have much chance to run through its halls. oh well.
the first line kind of reminds me f all those movies where the promising young singer/artist/designer/architect/whatever goes to his/her first job interview/job. he/she is really confident about him/herself and is really psyched for their first day, then is handed a pile of paperwork. "I thought I would be doing important stuff. You know, like [whatever they were expecting to do--record music, paint, design...]" Then the boss says, condescendingly, "Welcome to the real world." its just like that.
i have to say though, I really do not like John Mayer. I don't think he does well in live performances, and his voice is *okay*. So the $64,000 question is, why am I making all these comments on his song?
Well, I wouldn't be if I didn't love his music so much. :) |

makes me wanna scream at the top of my lungs. which is hard, because the first time I heard this song (about 10 minutes ago) i had (and still have) a ridiculous cold/sore throat/sick from school kinda thing.
heard it on the radio, bought it on itunes, looked on songmeanings.com for the lyrics/what other people thought of it. makes me wanna get up and dance.

I'm currently rehearsing a production of the musical Red, Hot & Cole--basically a biography of Cole Porter, the writer of this song. I particularly like this song--don't know why. But the first time I heard this song--heard it without really listening for the tune or the words, really heard it--was just now, after a mini-fight with a friend (not really a fight, we exchanged insults but as far as I can tell we're still friends). I was kind of hurt by the things she said, though I didn't show it before. And this was the first time I ever thought of this song as really, truly sad, and not just a story of a woman with an odd name. |

| Thriving Ivory – Angels on the Moon (Album version) Lyrics
| 17 years ago
|
I like it when I go to look up a song and people don't really agree what it's about. I think a lot of times that symbolizes a good song. But enough of that, if you're reading this you obviously like the song.
"To all of us" is probably my favorite line of my favorite part of the song. Just the way the singer repeats it makes me think. Like, we're all together, no matter what, even if there are two people around the world from each other (which isn't what I think it's about, but it's a good thing to think about).
This isn't what it's about either, but the phrase "Angels on the moon" reminds my of heaven, from the point of view of someone who isn't very religious. I mean, if you don't have a strict religion you follow, but you believe there's something out there watching and loving us.
As to what I think the song is about, I get the vague idea of a teacher figure kind of like a mix of Dumbledore, Gandalf and Aragorn. Someone who's gone through a lot, and knows that life is sad. So you have to celebrate when something good finally happens. And they're telling this to an innocent kid, I get the impression it's a teenage girl, but that may be just from the cover art on the album. And they're not purposely doing this, but as they try to teach this girl to be happy, you kind of get the feel of things that have happened in their life. Maybe they loved someone who was killed on 9/11. Maybe someone they loved left them. I can picture their eyes, a little wrinkled on the edges but with so much depth inside.
Anyway, that's what I think. Feel free to swear at me because I'm so wrong, and if I'd even listened to the song I would know what it was actually about... |

I know this isn't it, but the first two verses kind of remind me of mentally disabled kids at school. You know, how nobody really cares about them? Sorry if I'm making assumptions or something, it's just the first thing that came to my mind. |

| Ashlee Simpson – Pieces Of Me Lyrics

Everybody is saying some messed up stuff about ashlee...I'm gonna stay neutral but I mean you can't dislike someone as a musician just because they have a bad voice. I personally think her voice is fairly good, but for example Bruce Springsteen or Bob Dylan didn't have the best voices but look how they turned out. As for this song being a cliche (said by some of the older posts, I haven't read through them all myself), when you get right down to it, a lot of the best songs of all time are all about a few main topics. |

Hey. I've been reading the comments, and so far, yeah, you've all agreed that this song is about religion, or love, or life. But you all said something else different. Some I thought were ridiculous, yeah. But to you, they weren't. And I think this song was meant to make you guys think about it. It was meant to be talked about like this. Yeah, it's cheesy, but that's what I think. |
