What a creepy, beautiful song. It's pretty obvious what it's about (to me, anyway): rape, loss of innocence, and all that. |

I don't get all of the negative comments about this song. It's a fun song. Who cares if it isn't like all of the other Muse songs? No need to get all emo and cry "tru fans would hate this!!! this is a disgrace!!!". Shut up. Just because you don't like it or because it's different doesn't make it a bad song, and it certainly doesn't make it a disgrace. The meaning doesn't really matter. It obviously has something to do with a guy who falls in love with a superficial celebrity or the like. |

I love this song SO much. It definitely has some vampire vibes. The song sounds like it's written from the perspective of a girl who's been completely enchanted by a mysterious vampire. I don't want to say it reminds me of Twilight (since I can't say I'm a fan), but this wreaks of Bella Swan (ex: "Your presence is the morning/your absence is the night"). It kind of reminds me of New Moon. I STILL love it though. Thank you Angel. If it weren't for that awesome theme song, I would have never discovered this band. |

New interpretation! NOW I think this song is about a girl trying to impress a boy she likes... who happens to be a psycho. The whole "I'm a murder tramp, birthday boy" reminds me of someone who is so desperately obsessed with someone else that they'd go to any lengths to get their love. In this case, the guy she's in love with obviously likes to... uh... kill people. So it's like she's presenting him with a room full of people for him to kill as a birthday present. This song is so amazingly sextastic. I can't go an entire day without hearing it once. It makes me happy. =D |

I definitely agree with A.M. But I was just thinking... what if the song had nothing to do with bipolarity? Maybe the light, playful voice was meant to show the way someone acts on the outside--fake, or plastic--and the more sinister voice was supposed to be the voice inside of your head, the way you really feel. Someone has probably already said that... Either way, the song is unlike anything I've ever heard. Chibi's voice is simply ethereal. And the music video is... strange. I think it fits the song, but the dolls give me nightmares. O_o |

Like a few other people have already mentioned, I always pictured the song being about a little girl and her friend, who may or may not be imaginary, killing everyone at a birthday party. The lyrics are pretty straight forward. I love the part of the song with "I'm gonna bash them in, bash them in". It's so much fun to sing to. Anyway, this song definitely kicks some major ass. It's a pretty funny story how I came across this band. I was looking up happy birthday songs for my stepsister's 5th birthday when this came up on itunes. I now own every TBM cd. I'm completely in love with their style of music. Happy Birthday is probably my favorite song to listen to, because the story is so intriguing. Oh, and another thing. I always associated the title of the CD, Violet, with the name of the little girl I pictured killing everyone in this song. I don't know if by Violet they meant the name or the color... Probably the color. Whatever. I'm gonna go listen to this song now, for the 5 billionth time. |
