That makes alot of sense actually... most of the lyrics in the song describe personified versions of different colours like "My red is so confident he flashes trophies of war And ribbons of euphoria. Orange is young, full of daring but very unsteady for the first go 'round" He associates a certain feeling to a colour, which is exactly what the effects of synesthesia have on your brain. One cognitive pathway that is stimulated for colour, triggers a different pathway that would be connected to feelings such as confidence or the eagerness of the youth. so the two different sensations come together in a package deal... sorta |

I believe that this is song is about the process of a drug addiction, maybe heroin. In the beginning it just seems as though someone has been convicted for possession and sent to rehab, "Gather all your possessions, and smile because you’ve got it all." and its clear to see the writer is talking to the addict and just pointing out that the emptiness in their life is leading them to drugs and its the drugs that act as a temporary comfort but then leave you lower than low, which fuels the strive to fill that emptiness (use again). And that they'll keep searching in the "wrong places" until the drugs lead to the end when its "too late". Then they use again.."Slip on the ice again." slipping on the ice could have been used to symbolize trying to stay standing, free of drugs, but the mental addiction makes you slip and fall. "using drugs again" And they think they have all the time in the world to quit, like most drug abusers would say, but really it could all come crashing down at any time, its only a matter of time. Now "Slipping on the ice again, you’ve become so cold." references to the ice (drugs) and the addiction to it causing the person to become very cold (cold could have two meanings: cold from the ice, and cold like bitter and selfish) Then the time comes to leave rehab, your stay is up. and the path you chose in rehab is leading you in the wrong direction. You did not decide to change. You did not take the chance that was given to you. So now the drugs will make you crash down and die. i hope you survive. |
