Against Me! – Black Me Out Lyrics 12 years ago
I think this song is about how it feels being on a major label. You're a whore to the record company. Against Me! left the label and they're releasing their next record on an own label. "I don't ever want to talk that way again,
I don't want to know people like that anymore."

Their label basically ruined "White crosses" and I feel this song is a strong reaction and the band are trying to get their integrity back. Kick-ass song by the way. There's so much anger behind the line "I want to piss on the walls of your house".

Then again, their upcoming record is a concept album of a transgender prostitute, so I might be wrong. But there's nothing saying this song can't be interpreted in more than one way.

mastatsan:

""Blue Carolina", "Rooftops", "Queen of Pain", and "While you're Waiting" are all HWM songs that Alk3 remade/covered. There may be others that I'm not remembering/aware of.."

what's the point of posting when you obviously have no clue?
only "Rooftops" is a hot water music cover of the songs you mentioned. The other ones are all trio songs. Get your facts straight..

and you don't even have to be a genius to actually HEAR that it's original Alk3-songs..

This is probably one of the worst alkaline trio songs ever.. of course it's not as bad as "I'm Dying Tomorrow" but that's just about how bad a song can get..

otherwise I love Alkaline Trio.. every band make a couple of shitty songs.

iancurits: yeah, that was the first thing I thought when I first heard this song. The "whoa's" in this song is a little TOO similar to the chorus of "Sink, Florida, Sink".

Maybe it's an homage? I mean, these guys salute their idols many times on the record. And you can tell that they've taken lots of inspiration from Against Me! (as well as the clash, bob dylan, bruce springsteen and others)

the title of the song simply is saying that Strummer was great enough to be compared to Woody Guthrie.

great song by the way!

The Gaslight Anthem – Angry Johnny and the Radio Lyrics 17 years ago
The first line of this song is also a Bob Dylan reference. "Don't think twice, it's all right" is a Dylan song.. from the "Freewheelin'" album if I'm not mistaken..

I just can't believe the people who actually think this is a Hot Water Music cover.

Alkaline Trio – Rooftops (Hot Water Music cover) Lyrics 17 years ago
Alkaline Trios best HWM cover? This is the ONLY HWM cover they ever did. "While you're waiting" and "Queen of Pain" are both Trio songs, not covers.

This song is good. Not better than the original though. It feels a little bit stressed.
