| Atom and His Package – Going To Georgia Lyrics | 15 years ago |
| I like it. I think it proves that the lyrics and the melody work on so many levels that it still sounds haunting and sweet when "perverted" by atom's quirky electronic shtick | |
| The Mountain Goats – Letter from Belgium Lyrics | 15 years ago |
| if you are on meth, your reaction is more likely to be "ELECTRICAL EQUIPMENT!!!! FUCK YEAH!" | |
| The Mountain Goats – The Best Ever Death Metal Band in Denton Lyrics | 16 years ago |
I always imagined the way they "got even" was spray painting HAIL SATAN! all over the school. But that's what's wonderful about John Darnielle's darkly ambiguous songwriting. It's just as likely that Jeff and Cyrus put on a great show for all their friends as it is that they shot up the fucking school. Whatever it takes to be saved in our nonsensical world. HAIL SATAN |

| David Bowie – The Loneliest Guy Lyrics | 16 years ago |
I just listened to this song for the first time ever, and I've definitely heard it before, on a tv show or movie or something......and that's going to eat at me for a while. Might have even been a cover of it.. anyone have any ideas where I might have heard it? |

| Neutral Milk Hotel – Gardenhead/Leave Me Alone Lyrics | 16 years ago |
The Gardenhead knows my NAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAMMMMMMMMMMMMMMMMMMMMMMMMMMMMMMMMMMMMMMMMMMMMMMMEEEEEEEEEEEEEEE that word lasts for 15 seconds. I highly doubt that is his natural voice, and it was probably artificially lengthened. But it might be, and if it is, Jeff Mangum is definitely a demigod of sorts. Either way, it's the coolest vocal phrasing I've heard in any song. |

| Tom Waits – Jesus Gonna Be Here Lyrics | 16 years ago |
This is probably the scariest song Tom Waits has sung. It's a dying man's death rattle- hallucinating and delirious in his dying breaths. Very simple song, but it's one of the most visceral and affecting interpretations of death put to record. |
| Tom Waits – The Ocean Doesn't Want Me Lyrics | 16 years ago |
| what is it that he's saying at the very beginning? | |
| TV on the Radio – Shout Me Out Lyrics | 16 years ago |
Pitchfork says this song 'borrows well from Bob Dylan's 'A Hard Rain's A-gonna Fall'" Can someone tell me exactly how? I don't see any lifted lyrics, and the choruses aren't really at all similar. Is pitchfork just full of shit, as usual? |

| Daniel Johnston – Mask Lyrics | 16 years ago |
Most beautiful Daniel Johnston song. Perfect description of unattainable love |
| Saul Williams – List of Demands (Reparations) Lyrics | 16 years ago |
Think about it The song is called "Reparations" The first line is "I want my money back." If he sold out with this song intentionally cynically, it's the biggest 'fuck you' possible to both the corporate building AND the street, and a brilliant artistic move. But he didn't... he did it for the movement. And I agree with the poster that quoted The Revolution won't be Televised. Saul's words are awesome, but he won't gain any significant cred unless he practices what he preaches, and does it louder than he does now. |

| Future Islands – Old Friend Lyrics | 16 years ago |

| Future Islands – Beach Foam Lyrics | 16 years ago |
| Future Islands rocks my fucking tits off | |
| Justice – DVNO Lyrics | 17 years ago |
It's the masculine counterpart to the feminine Tthhee Ppaarrttyy, showing both sides of the hedonistic Paris club life. durr. |
| Animal Collective – Peacebone Lyrics | 17 years ago |
The screams towards the end are some of the most visceral and affecting sounds in modern music. simply amazing |
| Bob Dylan – Stuck Inside of Mobile with the Memphis Blues Again Lyrics | 17 years ago |
| I think this song and Visions of Johanna together form his best poetry and most beautiful statement. The words flow and both perfectly capture the feeling of very specific moments. Whether it be the sun rising on a moment of heartbreak (Visions) or the burnt-out confusion and pathos of the next morning, looking back on how life has lead up to this point. | |
| MGMT – Time to Pretend Lyrics | 17 years ago |
"I'll move to Paris, shoot some heroin and fuck with the stars" this is an amazing line. If you think of it abstractly 'fuck with the stars' is really stark and strange imagery. It could have been written intentionally literally though. fucking with the stars, like the famous people in paris. Thinking of it that way is a little more disappointing. But the song is moving nevertheless. |
