| Sleigh Bells – Crown on the Ground Lyrics | 15 years ago |

First missing lyric might be 'it's worth shouting it' - though I like yeahyeahyeah92's 'you street-shouted it', too. The second sounds like 'is that we're never through', but how does that work with 'the perm'nent thought of you?' And 'to see a clear PATH somewhere in your habitat' makes more sense to me. mathtractor, I love the 'sic semper' idea and it's joining the official lyrics in my head. |

So ... I'm the only one who thought they were 'shouting out' to Neon Genesis Evangelion? Hadn't seen the show in nearly a decade, but this song reminded me of it. |

| Scott Walker – Montague Terrace (In Blue) Lyrics | 17 years ago |
|
Montague Terrace is in Brooklyn, but no idea why it's blue. This song's always seemed a bit pretentious, so I imagine there's something bigger going on that just a night spend waiting around. Like ... they're stuck in a post-apocalyptic wasteland ('the little clock's stopped ticking') and remembering places that have been destroyed. (Fist filled with illusions, etc.) Of course, it could be something simpler, like waiting for summer and a better time to leave the apartment. But... I'm pretentious, too. |

| Sloan – 500 Up Lyrics | 17 years ago |
| Seems to be about a girl who really can't measure up to her own expectations/hype, but nobody around her is willing to stop playing along with her self-image. They'll tear her up behind her back, but when she's disappointed with her failures they just keep faking encouragement. (I *think* that's what 'That's what they say/500 up on the ladder' is referring to - like she's low in the 'draft' now, but she'll get her chance eventually.) And she knows something is off, but nobody's being straight about it. | |
| Rachael Yamagata – Faster Lyrics | 17 years ago |
|
Natahley, I think she's just played it live so far. Iirc she used a lyric from it in the 'appetizer' vid for her next album, though; last I heard, it'll be out in October (finally). As far as meanings - well, sort of - I think it's interesting that she uses the 'taking-down' pictures motif in both this song and 'Woman.' So I've always figured this one's about finally really getting over James .. whoever that is. |

| The National – Murder Me Rachael Lyrics | 17 years ago |
|
I hear the pronouns in this one literally, so it'd have four 'characters': the speaker, the girl he loved, the pretty boy she's with now, and Rachael who's a friend (or psychiatrist :) he's agonising to about the whole thing. He's telling Rachael to murder him before he has to see his ex-lover with the new guy again, because he just might lose it and kill the pretty boy. (To be fair, this interpretation is very, very coloured by my life experiences; lnknprky2k's sounds more likely, to me.) |
