| Bill Callahan – All Thoughts Are Prey to Some Beast Lyrics

I think the beast is dependent on the thought. The wind is the beast to the eagle. The eagle could be depression, or perhaps existential angst, and how it drives away the sweet thoughts shows how it can consume a person. Deep stuff, this Bill Callahan ... |

Haha, I was just listening to this song and said to myself, "Wow, this is kind of overrated." Decided I'd voice my opinion, but someone's already done me the favor :] |

The lyrics are deep as hell, as already pointed out. But I think the guitar "solo" in this song is actually really significant as well. It's not very structured; there really aren't any notes played. It's just a beautiful wall of sound, akin to some shoegazey stuff. I think it's an abstract representation of the emotions that the lyrics are trying to portray ... although I'm pretty sure the guitar does a better job, as much as I love Stipe's voice.
Otherwise, thank you, Naivada, for making me smile. Those types of comments piss me off, too, although my analysis of Cattle's subsequent comment suggests sarcasm ... ;) |

I thought this song showed Sondre's potential interest in shoegaze ... especially the droning guitars at the end. Very atypical for him, but great nonetheless. |

Oh man ... some of these references are ridiculous/disgusting. Well, 'The Story of the Eye' is the worst one (er, the only one I really looked up). This song made me curious to look it up and I regret it. Hopefully, anyone reading this comment will be overwhelmed by curiosity to look it up, too ... heh heh
Kevin Barnes has an intriguing writing style ...
And yes, this song is epic; it blew my pants off. Especially after being a fan of OM since Cherry Peel. I'm going to see them for the first time in four days. If they don't play this song I'll be pissed, but I heard they end the concert with it nowadays. |

Oh my god ... that transitional section at the end ... There are voices in the background talking! Freaks you out when you listen to the song high ... erm, or sober.
I agree that this song is underrated. |

"The walk is taking days"
Erm, it's definitely not 'taking' ... but I can't tell at all what it really is.
"Because walking's half the fun"
True that.
But whatever, this song should be the first track on the album. It's the easiest to connect with. Once you connect with this song the others will make so much more sense and sound so much better. |

Wow, I can't even imagine this song without the crazy-ass guitar. It wouldn't have near the same impact. In fact, I would refuse to listen to the edit.
To me, this song is about control, and the guitar in the middle perfectly exemplifies that: losing control. But he pulls himself back together, only to finish with a mind-blowing ending.
On second thought, maybe it's artistically ironic to edit a song about control and take out the part about losing control ... |

Yeah, I thought he was going to get his pants suit on, too. Also, somehow, I thought "get my hat out of loan" was "get my eyeliner on." Anyways, this song is so crazy ... awesome. |

The first half of this song just pisses me off. But the second half is totally Boards of Canada, with some TV samples to boot. It's so beautiful. |

Wow, I find it funny that someone would bother putting the single word 'Hopelandic' down as lyrics ... but, yeah, I agree with h2min: this song rivals 'Glosoli' ... |

I know it might be a little downplayed, but I love the line "It's just a life story ..." Why does that seem so epiphanic?
I'm terrible at transcribing lyrics, so I was wondering if anyone could post the extra verses that OR played at that San Fran show at the Independent. That'd be pretty cool. |
