One of my favourite Pantera songs. It seems to me that they are condemning religion as a lie and a waste of a person's life. I don't see that much can be gained by taking Josue's interpretation and seeing it through Satan's eyes. I doubt "Brainwashed by me" refers to embracing Satanism as an alternative to religion. Instead it is saying that we should use our own conscience for deciding what is right and wrong because "God is in your chest". I think the line "The bond that blends the weak to the wise" may have been inspired by a passage (section 61) in Nietzsche's Beyond Good and Evil. "religion is ... a bond which binds rulers and subjects in common, betraying and surrendering to the former the conscience of the latter" |
