| Radiohead – Like Spinning Plates Lyrics | 17 years ago |

Just wanted to add what I feel the meaning of "spinning plates" is. Spinning plates is a carnie trick, when a person balances numerous spinning plates on their axes on sticks and such, as seen here: http://www.skelliewag.org/post_images/spinning_plates2.jpg Now what this metaphor means is up to interpretation, but I beleive that it is meant to represent doing something completely useless, but dazzling nonetheless. I beleive the song is commenting on how repetitive and meaningless and aesthetic somebody's actions are. If you take the political interpretation of the lyrics, the song could be about thom himself saying that he feels like he is spinning plates while trying to get a message across. As far as being a political set of lyrics, I claim this because of the reference to speaches, and then the reference to "a delicate balance." It is as though thom is trying to make a political statement, but becomes frustrated with his own feeling of despair in trying to convey a political message, and then simplifies himself to spinning plates. The last line, "our bodies floating down the muddy river" is death, which is how he feels he's ending up in his despair and inability to change the way in which the political world is making decisions with his life. Now, if my interpretation is correct, it's a very cryptic way to write the song. But I think this is on purpose. Who would want to write a song about how they feel they're words are useless and let everybody hear it and understand exactly that? I think the song was made cryptic so as to emphasize the disability in comunicating. The music says the same; it's incredibly altered and different. Nevertheless, it's not a happy sound. I think there's clearly despair in it, but unlike anything else, and very cryptic in its own respect. |

| Robyn – Jack U Off (Prince cover) Lyrics | 17 years ago |
| As stated, it's a Prince cover. I don't think the song could possibly be very serious other than to be funny in its overtly sexual way. | |

| The song lyrics are political, no doubt, and the music is distorted to an unprecedented level. What I find interesting is the bizarre emotion this song creates. I remember an interview with Thom and he said he writes music to create a world rather than to describe his own. I think that's the music in this song. The way the song makes me feel, nothing else has ever been similar. | |
| Radiohead – 2 + 2 = 5 (The Lukewarm) Lyrics | 17 years ago |
| If it hasn't already been said, there's an amazing fan video made by Gaston Vinas of grapevineindustries for this song. Whether or not you think the song is a reference to Dostoevsky, you cannot deny that it also has references to 1984. The video takes some artistic liberty and stretches the theme to another Great George Orwell book, Animal farm. Everyone should watch it. | |
| Dillinger Four – A Floater Left With Pleasure In The Executive Washroom Lyrics | 17 years ago |
|
This is to me the most bitter song ever written. The speaks of the proletariat population in a socialist manner, one step short of asking for a serious revolution. I am not trying to say they mean for any communist takeover, but that the majority of the working public is being constantly abused and short handed. The song has some particularly personal lyrics, like "'it's all in my head'" in a sarcastic manner. The line "will do anything for bread" I think refers to the french revolution when the entire french population was so poor they could only afford bread, and Marie Antoinette had the most famous misquote ever "let them eat cake." |

| The Go! Team – Doing It Right Lyrics | 17 years ago |
|
I beleive this song is about the high energy that the Go! Team constantly has. It's also urging everyone else to use their energy in a positive way just as they have. I guess the point of doing that is to add to their crazy dancing high movement shows. What I find interesting about the song is that the music always reminds me of sesame street, and because of this it always sounds youthful. This adds a lot, as if they have that youthful fierce energy, like puppies or toddlers. Always happy, always getting into innocent trouble, and lots of potential. |

| Blümchen – Liebe Liebe Lyrics | 17 years ago |
| For the most part this is a pop song, except for the B part in the song which incorporates some strong poi effect synthesizers. The extremely rapid music is then hustled even more by Blumchen's extremely high pitched but perfectly placed voice, making what appears to me to be her only angry, if you can call it that, part of a song. | |
| Blümchen – Heut' Ist Mein Tag Lyrics | 17 years ago |
|
Historically, this song sort of ushered in the end of happy hardcore as a genre, and was also Blumchen's last hit as "blumchen." The main line in the song "heut ist mein tag" translates to "today is my day." Simply put, the song is just that euphoric... Its catchy synthesizers and melodies are constantly happy and driving. In a way it is the result of many years of experimenting for many happy hardcore artists. |

| Blümchen – Herz an Herz Lyrics | 17 years ago |
|
This song also has an english version in which Blumchen sang under the name "Blossom," and the name of the song is "Heart to Heart." She also did a few other songs in english. Nevertheless, the translation in that version isn't exact, but it's pretty close and maintains a rhyming scheme. The songs lyrics don't have much to pry into at all. They're generally happy and about love. What's interesting is the music. The song is of the electronic genre "happy hardcore," which is typified by the really fast bouncy beat and extremely "cheesey" melody lines. This song is by no mean an exception to that, but it also has an uncommon melancholy melody. The song was originally released in 1995 and thus it included straight forward and repetitive beats. Altogether, the song thrust the 15 year old Vanessa Wagner (Blumchen) into stardom. My interpretation of the melancholy effect is this: The extreme happiness of being in love often leaves somebody feeling lonely the second they are not with their significant other. This song to me speaks of feeling the distance between you, even though there may not be very much. |
