| Honestly I believe the song is about Dante Alichieri. He was an Italian poet who wrote Dante's Inferno (The Divine Comedy). At the beginning of the song is a passage from the poem, the passage is from the very beginning where Dante find's himself in the Dark Wood of Error. Dante eventually takes an immortal journey through Hell, even though he is still alive. The voyage is made possible by God with the intercession of Beatrice, a women, now residing in heaven after her early death, whom Dante loved. Her concern for Dante's lost state of mind leads her to ask Virgil, a poet of ancient Rome, to lead him back to goodness of spirt by going through Hell and relinquishing his sins. | |
