This is a song about the blue-collar/working class lifestyle. It's not representative of all blue-collar workers, but it fits the stereotype. This is the only rock 'n roll song I've ever heard that mentions using chewing tobacco/snuff (Just a pinch between the cheek and gum). |

I agree with Eltamore and everyone else about the whole rehab/alcoholism aspect. "The one you sold to fool the world You lose your self-esteem along the way" To me, this is about the first steps in a 12 step program; for a person who is very independant, submitting to a "higher power" is very degrading, not unlike selling your soul. "You should know that the lies won't hide your flaws No sense in hiding all of yours" This is like coming to terms with yourself; you will never be perfect, so learn to like yourself. "I can fake with the best of anyone I can fake with the best of them all I can fake it with the best of anyone I can fake it all" I interpretted this part as being a confession from an alcoholic who still drinks, but continues going to AA, "faking it," so to speak. Maybe I'm wrong though. |

One thing that everyone seems to have missed is the fact that the kid was banging his highschool teacher! Lucky SOB; it wasn't until I got to college that I was able to get with one of my teachers. Slash's solo at the end is excellent. |
