Radiohead – Weird Fishes/Arpeggi Lyrics 17 years ago
I love the lyrics. okay -

I think that the first stanza....

"In the deepest ocean
The bottom of the sea
Your eyes
They turn me
Why should I stay here?
Why should I stay?"

...Illustrates that the narrator is in 'the worst possible situation' [being crushed in the bottom of a dark ocean.] and that there is no reason for him to stay in that situation. It may be looked at like he is being abused in a relationship or something of that manner. [both a relationship of people, or in a job, or something.]

This this, that turns the narrator's eye's is 'his chance' to get out of the mess. A chance to change his life. and any change would be a good change at this point.
[Can you think that today's US society is 'trapped in the bottom of the ocean, and in the darkest point, with the patriot acts, and unlawful warrants and things.] Do we wonder why we're in this situation? ...I do...

The rest of the song promotes this idea that the narrator is asking a rhetorical question of

"why are we here, being subjugated to this insurmountable pressure and being crushed into oblivion? Why can't we change something here!!!?"

Stanza 3 tells me that this pressure we're under will eventually put down everyone and

"...follow to the edge of the earth...and fall off"

[Apply this to a bad relationship, or this society thing I have going.]

Stanza 3 reiterates the point that 'the narrator' / 'we' didn't do anything to change the bad situation that we got ourselves into, and proceeded to be

'eaten by the worms and weird fishes.' ....

...at the bottom of the sea...

This is what I feel Radiohead is trying to express, if we sit idly by and let everyone be crushed under the pressure from above, then we'll all just be rotting somewhere in depression, being eaten alive by the lowliest of creatures.

In typical fashion, Radiohead finishes the song with a beautiful outro, with a gorgeously dark lyric strung over it.

"I'll hit the bottom, and escape"

Meaning to me that the narrator / us would rather be willing to hit rock bottom, and become mindless, and escape the problems, by taking the easy way out. whether that be ignorance, or suicide, or some other form of irrational 'escape'.

Radiohead – Where Bluebirds Fly Lyrics 17 years ago
Its so hard to make out the lyrics. I think it actually might be the lyrics to the "Somewhere Over the Rainbow" from the Wizard of Oz........really....I think they may have distorted some of the words or repeated a couple lines more than normal [typical of Radiohead]

I'll be commenting on this again soon.

Radiohead – Where I End and You Begin. (The Sky Is Falling In.) Lyrics 17 years ago
I love Sortilegus' thoughts on this song. [Last post, page 2]

I'd like to expand on his explanations and apply the title of the album into this song.

Lets think that this song is both from the perspective of God and of "The Human Race".

I'm going to put a line by line description, so beware of length.

There's a gap in between
there's a gap where we met
where I end and you begin.

God thinks [or knows] humans are falling away from him.
Humans think [or know] God is forsaking them.

and I'm sorry for us
the dinosaurs roam the Earth
the sky turns green
Where I end and you Begin.

God is sorry that things have turned out this way. He knows that he had control over the dinosaurs, but he 'ended' them with a little present from space. I've heard just before a impact, or right after, the sky turns an eerie green, this is a warning of God's plan, and a reminder of what has already happened. He tells us that where he ends, and we begin, is the beginning of the end. [cliché alert...hahah..]

Humans are sorry for the way they are, they're always begging for forgiveness to God. Humans know how the dinosaurs quickly perished, and don't understand their actions will repeat, and its only time that is saving us. We're polluting the atmosphere and turning it 'green' [taken from sortilegus' explanation] and this angers God more. Where we end, God begins to work on another race.]

I am up in the clouds
I am up in the clouds
and I Can't and I can't come down -

God lives there. and he's not sending down his savior, like people think. He's up there to stay and hold his domain over earth.

Humans [brains, and thoughts, using chemicals to experience this] imaginations are far fetched and unrealistic. They can't change, and they can't break the addictions to fantasy, drugs, whatever distracts our brains and puts us in the clouds.

I can watch, but not take part
where i end and where you start
where you, you left me alone
you left me along.

God will watch us die, but he wont come down and help us out. We forsake him before by doing what we do. We brought this upon ourselves. God says "where you, you left me alone" is now truly leaving us alone. After years of putting his word out there and telling us "I'll always be there for you, you can always confide in me." well no more. God is leaving us alone, because we did for so many generations.

Humans, will be cowardly, we'll watch it happen on TV, but we won't correct it. we'll stand by and idle, and we'll meet our end. We'll keep asking God, "You are leaving us alone out here God, where are you?" and the answer is clear, he was there, until we left God alone, and this is what we get.

X' will mark the place,
like parting the waves
like a house falling in the sea.

God's wrath is targeting earth, or the people who have ignored him, or whatever he wants. and like it was so easy for Moses to part the waves, he'll use his own power and throw a 'house into the sea'. whether that be eerily reminiscent to the asteroid that wiped out dinosaurs, or whatever. we'll be the target.

I will eat you alive /
There will be no more lies.

God will finish us off, humans will lie no more.

Humans will eat each other alive, to survive, - there will be no more lies from governments, or no more lies about religion, because it won't exist anymore...

Quickly -

applying Hail to the Thief to this song,

Hail to the Thief, if applied would be -

God - 'hail' to the humans, who are the thieves, who stole what I gave them [independent thought, ect.] and used it for terrible things.

Humans - 'hail' to [the] God, who stole everything we made. Even us who are in the image of God couldn't satisfy him.

remember to read sortilegus' comment at the end of page 2.

and these are just my 1 a.m. thinkings about this song, but I feel there are some areas that pretty deep.

Radiohead – I Am a Wicked Child Lyrics 17 years ago
I like this song a lot.

[I just submitted some corrected lyrics, the orignal ones are incorrect.]

http://www.greenplastic.com/lyrics/iamawickedchild.php
are the correct lyrics.

I think this song can be taken on two levels.

Take this line, "I am the Devil's Son, and I Wish to be good"

I see that this is someone who knows they are a terrible person, they commit crimes and do terrible things, they know this but can't escape the bureaucracy or social stratum, because it may cost them more than their life. You could think a politician or something could be in this situation. Maybe this is what Dick Chaney really thinks, Maybe he's the 'son' of the devil, 'bush' and he can't get out of this situation, due to the fact he's vice prez... .... sorry if that offends anyone. :)

I also think this has a level of theology to it. the lines "If I Could have kept on the straight and narrow, but God broke your heart."

tells me that the narrator couldn't follow the straight and narrow path of Christianity, Judaism, catholicism, or Islam and fell into despair due to the endless struggle to be good.

Take the previous lyric, and apply it to morals in political office.

Finally,
"Now I wake up in the night
He's tugging at my arms and legs
Like I was a marionette
Send baby Jesus
To radiate his lie"

I feel that the narrator is trying to express, that even in sleep, when you're supposed to be able to escape reality for a time being, the narrator is being heckled and pestered by his position, or problem. He feels like he's a puppet [politically, and religiously]

This leads for the narrator to turn away and say
"Send baby Jesus, to radiate his lie"

Which basically is a strong enough line to show the true opinion of religion and of bribery or shady political moves.

great song, but I'm sure this can be analyzed on more levels than what I've put here. I jstu wish more people would experience this song.

Radiohead – A Wolf at the Door (It Girl. Rag Doll) Lyrics 17 years ago
I feel the first post on this song sums up my thoughts on the song pretty nicely.

I'd like to add that I feel this song deals with corruption in the executive branch. I have a notion that Radiohead is trying to express that the real "Gangters" that are stealing our children, locking us up and putting us in boxes are the police, CIA and FBI.

I do think that the jittery and eclectic delivery that this song has helps define the situation of fear and terror in society.

The second "rap stanza" starting with [Walking like Giant Cranes] is referencing people who think their above others, such as those in a monarchy and totalitarian government [what we're becoming].

I really do think the Xray eyes, is a warning of "Patriot Act" searches at airports.

Despite crime being a potent topic of this song, I feel it has many levels to it. Radiohead wouldn't title a full studio album "Hail to the Thief" and end with a song about a petty criminal. I think this song, more than 2+2=5 [The Lukewarm.], tells a more chilling tale about the present state of affairs in the world, and the leaders who control it.

Radiohead – Worrywort Lyrics 17 years ago
I kind of feel Worrywort is about those in the world who get caught up in all the small things. Consequently they are brought down into a depression.

I feel Yorke and Co. try to emphasize the point in that it is impossible to evade all of these circumstances, but you have to enjoy life as it is presented to you.

Radiohead – Yes I Am Lyrics 17 years ago
I agree this song can be applied to the "EX" principle.
I also think that it portray the relationship between a producer? or record company that keeps asking for new material.

The record company, or advertiser or something would always be pressuring the narrator to be doing things that were maybe out of the ordinary.

"I am Wary" - wary of getting into shady deals? signing a deal with a company? getting back together with an Ex ? Wary of the Press/media ? maybe other things that you should be wary of...

The solo and climatic buildup at the end of the song is a stranger way for Radiohead to end a song, we don't hear a "solo" ending the song until I think Karma Police's distinct Noise Outro.

It kind of goes out of the box, for style and structure than most Radiohead songs, and I feel it could've been a musical experiment, as well as an introduction to the record company and fame they were receiving?

"Pre - My Iron Lung" thoughts?

Radiohead – You Lyrics 17 years ago
I think "Kavras" [last post of page 1] has something.

The song, to me, can be looked at like a "Infatuation with a woman" or "Infatuation with God".

Maybe the woman is unattainable, and everything she does sets the world ablaze to the narrator.

Maybe god, who the narrator loves so much forsakes him and sets the world on fire.

"Why should I believe myself" [If god doesn't believe in me?]

The last stanza -

"...caught in the fire, I can see you drowning, caught in the fire."

This is where god ? could be looking down "drowning in flames".

Or maybe this is where the narrator looks at his life, and how he can't get what he wants from this unreachable girl, and feels his world is hell.

Radiohead – You Never Wash Up After Yourself Lyrics 17 years ago
I love how simple the structure of this song is set up.

It kind of sounds like the lyrics portray an introspective and dreary look after a break up, or maybe a death, or something traumatic.

I feel songs aren't just about "a relationship" almost any song can be put in that terms. To me, this song can represent the dullness and lethargy experienced right after something terrible happens. Or even quite possible in a state of extreme depression. The narrator may be trying to blame someone, or even himself with the last line.

"You never wash up after yourself"

The song is quite cyclic, and can flow from start to finish very easily, leading me to believe that one who is in a depression, or a state of mind depicted in this song, can't get out.

beautiful, and simple

Radiohead – You and Whose Army? Lyrics 17 years ago
I'm going to comment on every Radiohead song. this is my first.

I notice a Duality within this song.

Side 1 - The song proclaims from a power above [government / church / god / big business] that they are above all. The [Ghost Horses] is an unstoppable army / litigation / laws / social morays that protect them from defeat.

The powerful ones saying to all people that 'they can't be touched and brought down', because they are on top, and everyone else is below them. They would say "You and Whose Army? [can defeat us, and our mission].

Side 2 - The ones who are being crushed beneath the power of those in power, are rebelling, and 'they' say "You and Whose Army?" can stop us? Once we start to change things in this world, you [the ones running the whole show] won't be able to stop us at all!

The Ghost Horses are the Underground rebellion that inevitably surfaces. A Guerrilla style warfare, that can't be seen.

Other Extrapolation :

I also feel this makes a great statement towards the church and The Parliament of England. I feel Yorke is trying to tell a story of the evils that both the church and Blair participated in.

I feel this predates the "apocalypse/traumatic event" that occurs in Kid A, but can also be retrospective after the terrible event happens. Like returning home to a destroyed city, brought upon by an invisible form of destruction

"We Ride Tonight, Ghost Horses"
"Oh, So Sad"

"We leave this place tonight, 'Ghost Horses' destroyed it all, Oh, So Sad."
