whats missing is jason. its a good song. it just doesnt sound like all the rest of mayday parades stuff because jason had nothign to do with it, so the sound is slightly different. i think that they can still do a great job without him though, theyve proven it with this. i think this song is about him being with a girl and theyre having a tough time or something and he also has a secret love and he wants her to take him far away from the situation that he is in with this other girl and to make him forget about it. |

"In a field full of fresh cheerful daises there is always an outcast (or if you’re into hip hop outKast) or two. In this case, there lies a long sexy black rose, thorns and all, with petals set to kill. If Whisper War was my field of daises, than you can be rest assured that “High Hopes and Velvet Ropes” is one of the black roses. High Hopes is one of the most standout tracks on the album to me. Orignally titled, “JT4”, for reasons obvious to anyone that knows anything about me and my band, this song was inspired musically by an older song by one of my idols. Lyrically…well….I’ll sum it up the best as I can without being too vulgar. I would like to think that I have grown and matured over the past few years, but in high school, it was safe to say that I was wild. I was crazy. Wanted to be apart of everything. I played basketball and other varsity sports, was a part of the broadcasting and photography programs, but most of all..I lovedddd the females. The song was just talking about my old personality. I was just always looking to have a good time, and a was a scandalous little sprout. Pretty dramatic..looking back I was pretty crazy and pretty dumb, but I had a lot of fun. I wanted to have a song that I could relate to..or at least the high school “me” could relate to. This song began as a set of lyrics I was working on a few months after getting signed. I was talking to a beautiful young girl (you know exactly who you are and what I a talking about) and one night after we went our seprate ways for the night I wrote a bunch of metaphors. The one that stook out were the lines about a body being like a chess board and our fingers being the chess pieces. In this case, pawns. I love the idea of physical activity, and life actually just being a big game. Its a different way to look at things. The older I get, the more different outlooks I have and try to see. My favorite lines are “It’s only a crime if I get caught..It’s only a line if it gets bought.” I like the tongue in cheek, play on word lyrics. It’s just saying that if you’re sneaky and good enough at being a shadow, how can you get in trouble? It can’t be a crime if you don’t get busted or if no one knows, and you can’t call something a “line” or a lie if the people you’re trying to fool doesn’t buy it. I can be a pretty nice dude, but I’m glad I got to let out my scandalous sarcastic side in this song. The goal of this song was to tell a story. The story of a guy who was built like a mouse trap, with his “neon green eyes” as the cheese. The character (maybe it’s me, maybe not ;) …you decide) was just into the chase, and meeting women was just a game to him. He would go to bars and clubs (velvet ropes) and stalk his “prey” like a fierce lion. Okay, so I’m being a little cheesy and dramatic, but so what!? Do I recommend this style of living? Not really. But it was fun as hell to write about. The bottom line is that everyone has two sides. We all have our romantic, sweet, understanding side…and our sarcastic, sexual, devious side. That’s why I’m so proud of our album..I believe it shows all sides of our band, both musically and personality wise. As much as my blogs make me sound like a sensitive sap (which most of the time I am) I’m glad I could post this blog to show you guys I can be a little playful, flirty, and mischiveous. I want this blog to show all sides of me, not just one…and as I post more and more..hopefully you will get to meet, know, and love every part of me..not just the guy you see onstage and meet after shows. "My name is Take My Hand and here is my story. This song was my baby for a long time. Growing up, I listened to a lot of music. I’d sit on my bed with my cheap Squire guitar, and learn how to play everything from “Back In Black” by ACDC to “Radio” by Alkaline Trio, or sing at the top of my lungs when my parents weren’t home to avoid the embarrassment of being heard. As I got older, I started realizing a few things. One was that I wanted to be musician, and two was that I was really annoyed and irritated at most of the songs that I heard and listened to (just heard or just listened. Both is redundant.) They were all sad. All were about heartbreak, depression, vengeance, and not being able to cope with reality and all of the things that come with it. With that, I made a promise to myself. I swore that if I was ever in a position where my music could be heard, I would do something with it. I would make a statement and try to do some good with six strings, a pen, and my voice. Take My Hand is about hope. It is about believing. I’ve always believed that if you stay strong and find the strength within yourself to hold your head high and to keep your eyes to the sky, good things will come. So I wrote a story about a young girl… lost… alone… all but gone. She was begging to be saved. What a lot of people don’t realize is that people who are lonely, depressed, or in a hard spot want to be saved. They’re waiting for a pair of hands to push through their sky and to lift them up off of the ground. I thought maybe, just maybe, I could be those hands. I could SAVE someone. Do you know how that feels? It takes just as much courage to lend a helping hand as it does to receive it. My favorite lyrics of this song might be “Hoping that you remain the same.” This is short and simple. Don’t change for anybody. I think you guys are fine the way you are. I love you all for it. Be yourself, stay true to yourself, and stay true to your heart and I promise you’ll be just fine. Anyways, this song is telling the young lady to stay calm and to “just breathe.” Lyrics such as “We won’t be a part of this” are all about standing as tall and strong as concrete when the current comes to reel you in. You don’t have to be a fish on the end of a hook… you can be stronger, bigger, and better than the horrible things around you. Swim through the negativity. Search within yourself and find your passion in life. The things that keep you going, that keep your gears spinning and your wine flowing. We need to believe in ourselves. Sometimes that’s all we have. I beg you–friends, family, people that hate me and will rip me apart tomorrow on message boards, strangers–lend a helping hand. Be someone’s safe place. Shelter them from the cold rain that seems to fall fairly often. Take their hand and run away. As the song says…this night doesn’t have to be the enemy. It can be your best friend. Most importantly…any night could be a new beginning. It’s up to you. -Alexander Michael" |

my favorite line is "liars turn me on" i love the cab, they are amazing. i think this song is about two people who were in a relationship, and it turned into a bunch of lies, and now he doesnt care about that, he just wants sex. or maybe that their relationship was based on lies and sex and nothing more. thats what i got from it, but who knows. |
