| Brand New – Vices Lyrics | 16 years ago |
| So I was listening to this song today and it hit me. Could the lyric be "say goodbye to the crown"? | |
| Brand New – Soco Amaretto Lime Lyrics | 16 years ago |
| To me this song has simultaneous forshadowing & hind sight. Kind of a past, present, future going on at the same time. | |
| Brand New – You Stole Lyrics | 16 years ago |
|
Whenever I listen to this song, I think of Quiet Things... Something in You Stole conjures up the feeling of that song & the things I associate with that song. Not to mention during Vinnie's solo I always find myself singing the chorus to Quiet Things (it wierdly fits) The song even has that California surfer dude sound throughout it, and Quiet Things talks about the western coast. Even more weird is I just started combining the 2 songs this week. Prior to that I just loved You Stole, & Quiet Things independent of each other, now my mind has merged them, lol. |

Sometimes I hear "I could never listen", other times I hear "I could never lose it/you" Who the hell knows what is really being said. Its been 3 years, we obviously are not going to get any answers. Like more than a few people have said, I feel that the lyrics are intentionaly ambiguous. |

Listening to the album version & the acoustic session version, I am pretty sure it is: Little cities names are wrote down on the maps" Jesse kinda mumbles it all together on the album, but its a little more clear on the acoustic version, but I can definetly hear "wrote down". |

I was just coming here to post this, the only small change would be "If" the sky... Trivial I know but other than that I think you got it! |

| Brand New – At the Bottom Lyrics | 16 years ago |
| BN & TBS may have sounded similar about 6-8 years ago, but they have since gone in polar opposite directions. 2003 was like the middle, TBS has gotten progressively poppier & BN has gotten progressively indie/harder. | |

I could see both those ideas being possible. Personally I would lean toward laces0utalex's idea. |

| Brand New – I Will Play My Game Beneath the Spin Light Lyrics | 16 years ago |
| In the lyrics book in the actual CD, it has both "you in" & "you win". | |
| Brand New – Jesus Christ Lyrics | 16 years ago |
| The first background lyric after "I know you're coming in the night like a thief" I always thought it sounded like they are saying "i've got ransom". I have no idea if thats it or not, but that is what I hear. | |
| Brand New – At the Bottom Lyrics | 16 years ago |
| I wasn't trying to start an argument, that is just how I interpreted that interview. I'm sorry. | |
| Brand New – At the Bottom Lyrics | 16 years ago |
| As to who wrote this, I thought it was a Vin song because of Jesse saying that he only wrote "Bought a Bride" & "Vices" off of the new album...but, I downloaded this song (legally) and it is credited to Jesse Lacey. So I don't know what to make of it. | |
| Brand New – Me vs. Maradona vs. Elvis Lyrics | 16 years ago |

We have these lines: Out of cash & I.O.U's I got desperate desires and unadmirable plans The 2 lines overlap, so it sounds like "I got you". Like this: Out of cash and I.O.*I got U's* desperate desires... Does that make sense? |

Actually I think it is this: "Before the kids could tell the dog goodbye, you were loading up your gun" Basically meaning a dog is dying (injured/hit by car/something) the Dad or someone was gonna put it out of its misery befre the kids could say goodbye. I also think it is "fake a way" |

I just saw a video on YouTube, from a show they did 2 days ago. Vinnie left and Jesse did the last 4-5 songs. Anyways this was one, and since it was acoustic you could really hear the lyrics. Jesse said: ***************************************** You're born blind, but you'll run out Feet slipping in alkaline then he changed it up a bit and said: You're born blind and you're running Your feet slipping in alkaline ******************************** He's definetly saying "You're born blind" though. |

You know ICannotTellALie, with the way Brand New like to use literary/movie/tv/song references/analogies, I wouldn't be suprised if you are on to something, lol. I personally think it is about a really deep friendship though. |

| Jack's Mannequin – Annie, Use Your Telescope Lyrics | 17 years ago |
| I noticed that at the end of this song you can hear a girl saying "i wish you could see the clouds" Well the very next song on The Glass Pasenger is "Bloodshot" with the lyrics that talk about looking up at the clouds. | |

^^^^^disreguard, the poster I quoted posted on the wrong song, thus confusing me. The cloud thing is at the end of "Annie Use Your Telescope", and then goes into "Bloodshot". Sorry! |

you fail me, maybe it was the same version only with lesser quality. I know that depending on the speakers/system I listen to it on sometimes I can hear the guitar effects and other times I can't. When you can't hear the background electric guitar it does sound acoustic. But, then again, you could have had an actual acoustic version, with how everybody records songs at shows and such. So Idk if I helped you out or not, lol. |

I believe I figured out a lyric. I work weird hours (3am-11am) Anyways the first 4 hours I am by myself and usually listen to Brand New. Today a lyric caught my ear, and I got really excited. Maybe someone in the last 18 pages has mentioned it and I missed it but here goes. The lyrics that go "I know you're coming in the night like a thief" today I realized that the background vocals for that part are saying "I've/I got ransom" |

| An about face is to do an 180--to turn around. | |
| Incubus – Calgone Lyrics | 17 years ago |
| As for the whole what does calgone mean, yes it is a detergent/soap. Another point is the slogan for Calgon, it was/is "Calgon take me away". I think that fits in with the song as well. | |
| Brand New – Good to Know That If I Ever Need Attention All I Have to Do Is Die Lyrics | 17 years ago |
|
I don't know if I should put this here because it involves 3 or 4 songs including this one. I know that there is this theory how all the "Devil & God" songs are related, but I think all the "Deja" songs are too. I also think the "Hotel California" guitar part of this song is a part of this as well. I'll just put a few connections down. 1. I will Play My Game Beneath the Spin Light Ok, it has the part "the coastline is quiet, while were quietly losing control"--to me it is a reference to "The Quiet Things That No One Ever Knows--then the song goes on to say "The harpoons loaded, the cage is lowered, the water is red like you"--perhaps a reference to Jaws Theme swimming. 2. Good To Know That If I Ever Need Attention All I Have to Do is Die--the Hotel California sounding music in the end could be intentional. HC's lyrics are about a hotel in Cali, personal demons & the like "you can check in anytime but you can never leave" etc. In Quiet Things...BN make reference to "the western coast" & "all for an empty hotel" I have others but, I thought I would throw it out there. Maybe I just have an overactive imagination though, lol. |

One more time, it entered my post and I wasn't done typing. I want to correct my previous post. What I meant to say was: I think a few lines are wrong. I think that instead of the lines "we are drowning/we are impressive", it sounds to me that it's breathless. Btw, it's "rest in the deep", not wrecked. That is in the CD booklet. So to me the other set of vocals are saying: This is the end This is the calm We are breathless After the storm Rest in the deep Washed up on the beach |

| Brand New – Jesus Christ Lyrics | 17 years ago |

I agree with xs1n1sterx, that is the way I've always interpreted "Jesus". To me it's obvious he is using it as a double meaning. there is the obvios religious way, but there is the sarcastic, statement of exclamation interpretation also. "Jesus Christ! That's a pretty face." = Damn, or oh my, that's a pretty face. "Jesuse Christ! I'm alone again. = Ugggh, alone again, this sucks. "Do you belive you missing out" = Can you believe it! Even the part where he says "at the gates does Thomas ask to see my hands", I'm not that religious, but from what ya'll are saying it has to do with him not believing it was Jesus he was talking to or whatever. But, it could aslo be interpreted as a guilty person using the common phrase blood on my hands meaning responsible for someone's death (perhaps the drunk driver if you believe the whole Katie Flynn is the subjuct of the album theory.) I personally think there is 2 or 3 differnet ways TDAGARIM can be interpreted. Just some thoughts. |

| Brand New – Fork and Knife Lyrics | 17 years ago |

Well the way I see it, the lyrics are about your past choices, and the new choice of getting on with your life. Basically "we chose to keep out teenage tradgedy" "you can't hold on to the thrill" etc. That being said I just realized something else the other day while listening to the song. Brand New has a way of using double & triple meanings in their songs, (which is nothing new) but I noticed a possible double meaning in this song. When they sing "the morning's over, the day is in full swing" Sure it could mean litterally the morning's over now it's daytime. But it dawned on me that what if BN are also saying "the MOURNING'S over, the day is in full swinging" connecting that part of the chorus to the whole song, saying we chose our teenage tradgedy, dwelled on it, suffered through it, perservered, what we invented we are now ending (meaning we dealt, we are over it) the mourning's over, today is a new day. Does anybody agree? |
