this is one of my fave you am i songs, just always loved that guitar riff at the end.. because of this i never gave much thought to the meaning, though the quasi-chorus seemed to indicate being destitute, but now i read the entire lyrics, i realise i have to give it some further thought.... |

i think most of you are off the mark, this is not a literal song questioning the messiah, it is simply about relationships.. think of a loving, forgiving girl, and a troubled, non-committal guy, who's even a little scared. yet ultimately he recognises that this woman could just be the answer to his problems.. |

| this song is all about moving on, the bigger picture. its about a man who's life is regimented, who's being groomed for a certain mission, a step into the unknown. when he achieves it, he comes across a completely different perspective on things, its quite surreal. however, this experience, which is beyond the intended mission, ultimiately leaves him with feelings of isolation and loneliness. from here he gives in, he cuts the life line, and just drifts off as the song fades out.. | |

i will tell you what this songs about.. musically, its faith no more at its best, pure dramatics, hence this being the title song. lyrically, its about selling your soul, and moreso, doing it willingly. its about knowing what it takes to sell your soul. you know how to meet people, you know how to impress, you'll get ahead. but deep down, you know the realities of life, and you'll never escape those. sure you can live the good life for a while, but in the end, you will be back to where you started, just a fool.. |
