it's obvious that jesse had his own meaning when he wrote this song, but of course, the purpose of music is that the listener's truth is the truth, in other words, open to interpretation what i think: jesse is pointing out that we won't be as fortunate as jesus in death, our deaths will be much lonelier, we won't be resurrected, we won't be carried on and glorified for centuries after jesus was allegedly a virgin, i think jesse is being condescending about the likeliness of that, "with nobody in your bed, the night is hard to get through" simplifying jesus' death: he died with two others, in front of a crowd, the rest of us, we "will die alone" again, jesus' death lasted three days, jesse's will "last more than the weekend" jesus was resurrected, floated up to the sky, gold chariot and all, but when we die, there is nothing when i listen to the song, i hear "my bride is too sly to hold back my dark" which i think means... the church is jesus' bride and it withholds many of the negative aspects of jesus/christianity, but none of us are that fortunate, our dark is exposed by everyone "we all got wood and nails" ...we all have sufferings, and some of ours are worse than being nailed to a cross for a day "turning out hate in factories" ...the churches "we sleep inside this machine" ...if there is a god, the world is a machine, we are his creations and manipulations WHICH IS WORSE? |
