| Stars – Calendar Girl Lyrics | 17 years ago |
|
For me, personally, I have always found this song beautifully heartbreaking. Something about the fleetingness of life, how it passes so quickly and how death is inevitable and lurking around every corner. And also that the girl has made mistakes: "december is darkest, and june is the light. but this empty bedroom won't make anything right. and out on the landing a friend i forgot to send home who waits up for me all through the night." but she knows she has to move on. "but if i don't come back then i won't look behind me." Calendar Girl makes me feel oddly peaceful/depressed at the same time. Amy's voice is enchanting in here. |

| Amy Winehouse – Fuck Me Pumps Lyrics | 17 years ago |

When I listen to it I get the feeling that she's smiling while she's singing it. What does - "You did too much E, Met somebody, And spent the night getting caned." - mean? E is the drug Ecstasy, is it? How about "getting caned"? Is it a reference to some sexual thing? |

| Nerina Pallot – Mr. King Lyrics | 17 years ago |

According to Nerina's website- Mr King refers to her old manager at a record company: "And then one day I woke up and I was in the real world, with a proper job (ok, not that proper, it was at a record company) working for Mr King. " Mr Cave refers to: "The screenplay is by a certain Nick Cave, of whose work I have always been fond, and who also gets a name check in Mr King…" To me, personally, this song is about growing up...the loss of innocence, the realization that the world is not always a happy place. ): It's always struck a chord in me - I have a friend who was my "Mr King". |

| Nerina Pallot – Learning To Breathe Lyrics | 17 years ago |

This was the song that first got me hooked on Nerina Pallot; every time I listen to it it blows me away the same way it did the first time I heard it. I think it's full of mixed emotions...a sense of hope and an encouragement to keep moving forward, like foxufmu said. Yet there's also a sense of...regret? I don't know. The way she sings about the man who lost his wife and that love is just a requiem for the soul. Also if you listen carefully in the background of the chorus there are voices singing something along the lines of "find your dreams/come true but/the one thing/I can't do". I think the general idea of the song is that she's conceding that even though life and love can be painful sometimes, there's always something to live for and we should keep pressing on. (: |
