| Rise Against – Hero of War Lyrics | 15 years ago |
| This song is a really great take on war. It's not vilifying soldiers or the military or anything like that. The first two verse could be in a army recruitment ad, for God's sake. I think it has more to do with the fact that war is, well, difficult. The soldiers here aren't evil, but they made mistakes. And they regret those mistakes, and it's hard for them to rationalize the praise that's showered on them when compared what they had to do. | |
| Dream Theater – Lie Lyrics | 16 years ago |
|
"I wanna talk about lifelong mistakes and you can tell your stepfather I said so" Maybe a quick jab at Portnoy? Actually, this song sounds like it could have been inspired by the same breakup that led to Space-dye Vest. (S-DV is the brokenheartedness KM felt after being dumped, and maybe this is the anger he felt later?) |

| Dream Theater – Lines in the Sand Lyrics | 16 years ago |
|
"Drawing Lines in the Sand" is an obvious reference to the passage in the bible where Jesus ("crown of thorns at my side") stops an angry mob from stoning a woman by telling them that "He who is sinless may cast the first stone". He proceeded to bend down and began writing in the sand. It doesn't say what he wrote (two common interpretations was that he was listing the sins of those in the mob, or that he was citing the passage in the Torah that proved the woman innocent of her crime), but the theme there, and I believe here, is "Judge not, lest ye shall be judged yourself." "Sometimes a view from sinless eyes Centers our perspective And pacifies our cries" |

| Dream Theater – Honor Thy Father Lyrics | 17 years ago |
| I loved the part where Labrie comments on the neglecting parent's balls. | |
| Metallica – No Leaf Clover Lyrics | 17 years ago |
| as easy as is to connect this song to sex, I think 'light at the end of your tunnel' more reflects the idea of the 'bright light' death cliche. The freight train is something that causes you to suffer even more, robbing you of a quick, painless death. | |
| Iron Maiden – No More Lies Lyrics | 17 years ago |
| It seems to me to be about suicide, but the chorus of 'No more lies' is strongly positive, which seems like he's seen through his thin attempts to convince himself to pull the trigger. | |
| Soundgarden – Jesus Christ Pose Lyrics | 17 years ago |
|
To me, the line "And would it pay you more to walk on water Than to wear a crown of thorns" seems to say that it's about 'Sunshine Patriots,' people who do things to gain popularity without meaning them. Like if Jesus went around just doing miracles to impress people instead of dying for our salvation. |

| Mr. Big – Green-tinted Sixties Mind Lyrics | 17 years ago |
| one of the coolest licks ever. | |
| Soundgarden – Pretty Noose Lyrics | 17 years ago |
|
it's the execution of a bad idea. the allusions to Adam & Eve show this. and "what you got me hangin' from" is really just an allusion to a noose. |

| Soundgarden – Burden in My Hand Lyrics | 17 years ago |
| personally, this song seems to reflect a sense of apathy for the the singer's condition. He knows that he's wasting away, he's lost his love, he's trapped in the desert, but he doesn't care. it was just a "burden in his hand." '"would you cry for me?" because I'm not crying myself.' | |
