Gregory Alan Isakov – The Stable Song Lyrics 12 years ago
Thank you so much for posting your thoughts, because so much of them were mine as well.

I agree with you that "I threw stones at the sky but the whole sky fell" could mean he was over-indulgent (maybe a reference to the story of icarus?) and I thought of addiction too, but the I thought I was just projecting my life onto the song.

"well I dragged you straight in the muddy ground"-perhaps he brought someone down with him, and was abandoned by that person?

I interpreted "the moon was just a sliver back then" as "there was only a little bit of hope", especially when feeling something as paradoxical as wanting to feel .

Bush – Glycerine Lyrics 17 years ago
I KNOW WHAT GLYCERINE IS.

It's a sweet, colorless, toxic chemical. It's also an alcohol (not quite the kind in vodka though...). It's used in antifreeze and it's and explosive (like nitroglycerine). It's a byproduct of SOAP...and possibly toothpaste too, but I'm not sure. Soap is also an explosive but that's not important.

He refers to who ever the song is about having a "beautiful taste". So the person he sings about is sweet, but also toxic (like glycerine), but he's still in love, unconditionally. Glycerine also makes your skin soft and smooth (hence the -beautiful- taste)

He refers to the color white as well, and glycerine is colorless... possible connection there? "everything is goin white" can mean he's like being consumed by the glycerine, which is a metaphor for his feelings for whoever the song is about.

Matchbox Twenty – Disease Lyrics 17 years ago
zacster...you are soooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooo wrong. To almost an incomprehensible point. He's not calling the girl a disease, he's calling his addiction to this girl an addiction. Like he can't stop thinking about her even though he broke up with him.
"what am I supposed to do about it?" to me is like "how do I live without you?"

The disease isn't the person, it's him still wanting her. This is SO. EVIDENT. "I can't live without you" HELLO. UGH.

Dave Matthews Band – Crash Into Me Lyrics 17 years ago
Wow, I didn't really have respect for Dave Matthews until I heard this song. It's so enchanting, all the way through. Yes, we all know that it gets "stalker-like" towards the end, but he's talking about a boy's dream?

He described a GRAPHIC FANTASY and he STILL made it sound enchanting, and aren't fantasies part of a boy's life anyways?

Third Eye Blind – Semi-Charmed Life Lyrics 17 years ago
undoubtedly, my favorite line is "and the four right chords can make me cry"
Probably the most effective way I've heard someone emulate how unstable our emotions can be.

On the other hand, I've never done meth or drugs, so my insight may not be as accuarte. Who knows.

Finger Eleven – Paralyzer Lyrics 17 years ago
I want to like this song so much, and I really did until I actually listened to the lyrics. The woman this guy is describing is the one paralyzed. She's obviously staring off into space and not dancing.

I have respect for finger eleven for being able to write such a rocking song about such a lifeless person.
