Bruce Springsteen – Shut Out the Light Lyrics 17 years ago
Yes, this is a vet who has returned but cannot leave Vietnam behind. At night he gets the shakes and nightmares of war, and begs for the lights to stay on so as not to encounter these visions and memories.

Bruce Springsteen – Nothing Man Lyrics 17 years ago
I agree with tbundick ... this song is about surviving but not knowing how to deal with it because so many of his friends did not make it. He talks about how everyone else just goes on living like nothing happened, but he cannot move on. The pearl and silver is definitely a gun that he is contemplating using to rid himself of the guilt of surviving.

The nothing man is the man who has no meaning, who could not save his friends, and he sees no more reason to live. He is empty and feels nothing.

Bruce Springsteen – Magic Lyrics 17 years ago
yes z4ckm0rris ... I am not sure where these lyrics come from but I didn't expect them to be wrong. Good catch.

Anyway, this song is simply about the tricks and deception of the Bush administration, as stated above.

In most cases, all of the music is Bruce. The drums, the sax, etc. Bruce writes the parts and the band plays them. It is all Bruce. They play what he tells them. There are articles about this method, where Bruce writes the music and he tries to capture the songs in studio as quickly as possible before the band members get too comfortable with it and start improvising.

Bruce Springsteen – Angel Eyes Lyrics 17 years ago
This is not a Bruce Springsteen song. He once played this in front of Frank Sinatra in honor of Sinatra. I don't know who wrote it, but Sinatra sang it.
