| I agree with dragon44. I never before looked for the meaning of the song because I assumed it was written for Christ's baby when she was born. I interpreted as a way for him to warn her about those upcoming moments of life (we ALL have or will experience(d) those moments he describes in the song) but the beautiful part of the song is that it is at the same time a promise, that he'll always be there for her, she always can return home. | |

I kinda see it the way space_monkey138 does. May be because it happened to me too! Well, as I see it: It's about a boy and a girl, who used to be great friends, they liked each other very very much so they ended up having sex. Afterwards, one of them was trying to make it last, becoming a couple, while the other wasn't so sure about it. So that divided them. I think the song could be written from the point of view of the person who wanted to be more than friends. People-they don’t mean a thing to you, they move right through you just like your breath [i already know you don't care about me enough, you kinda used me for sex] But sometimes I still think of you [in spite of everything] And I just wanted to, just wanted you to know My old friend [because we were friends once] I swear I never meant for this [if i knew this would tear us apart i would never allow it] Don’t look at me that way [now you think I'll obsessed with you forever] Sometimes I forget I’m still awake I fuck up and say these things out loud [I didn't behave like I'd normally would with a person i like, i was extremely pursuing and straightforward because we were friends and there was trust btwn us] It was an honest mistake [I just thought it was fair game to give it a try] The interesting thing is that it could be interpreted from the other person's point of view as well. |

Wow, this song is so beautiful. I can't believe more people haven't commented on it. I interpret the lyrics as when you're starting to know a guy you like a lot and you know he's someone you could easily fall in love with. You know he does like you but you're not sure if he wants to get involved in a relationship. You're talking straight with him, about what you want, and that it might not be easy, but at the same time (especially in the third paragraph) you're kinda trying to convince him to do it. The ride is in my opinion the relationship. starting now the wait is over (it's like you've been alone for so long, or maybe with somebody but not the person or the kind of relationship you really wanted) as long as you jump the ride (but that relationship it's of course conditioned to the other person also wanting it) as long as you follow me this is what i do, like i do i've been on the ride before it never stops at all (my life is complicated, are you willing to accept me? i know for experience, relationships are difficult, are you willing to endure all that?) you'll start your engines like a virgin(of course, at the beginning everything's new and exciting) as long as you jump the ride we'll cut the whip and lose the anchor (if you do decide to start the relationship with me, we'll both let go our restraints and inhibitions and be freely together ) as long as you jump the ride |
