| Sorry, i was drunk during that previous explanation. The points are right, but the typos and grammar is horrible. | |

This one's complicated, but I think this song is not directly about stds, or getting married, but more the fact he loves her, but is scared of the circumstances that he may face by telling her so. That's why's he's asking, he wants to know if she feels the same. Yet at the same time i think part of what he is asking is about some form of std whem it talks about "Too many lost. In a chain a chain passed down, Through the years, But ending here if we just face the pain, And the fear." But overall I think its about realizing you trully love someone, wanting them to feel the same, and quesitoning whether or not they do. |

I agree with chaotic mess completely but I want to add that the part about "pretty mama come and take me by the hand" refers to an old Doobie Brothers song called blackwater where it talks about the mississippi river and expressedly "I'd like to hear some funky Dixieland, Pretty momma come and take me by the hand, by the hand, take me by the hand" I'm from Alabama, and I don't know if this song is well known around the US, but well known in the south. What can I say, It's a southern thing. |

| Well, I read through all the meanings for this song listed here, and I don't think any of us have it truly right. Including myself. This song had an early version you can find if you search for miss misery(early version) on you tube which has alot of the same lines but totally different meaning. But since everyone is discussing the good will hunting version and that is the version I'm most familar with I will too. I think it's a combonation of what most people have written here. It is about a relationship, but it's also about his depression and how it effects his relationship. From the beginning of the song I feel it is about him and his depression and suicidal thoughts. He is drinking to relieve his depression, but from the drinking he is obtainging suicidal thoughts. After that with the two tickets torn in half and alot of nothing to do, i think he is referring to a broken relationship, and the depression that comes right after breaking up when u have nothing to do and have to reinvent your life. And as far as the "do you miss me, miss misery, like you say you do" I believe he is referring to his ex in the form of whether or not she does truly miss him and his depression/suicidal state that is present whether she is with him or not. As far as the man in park I believe this does refer to robin williams, cause in the early version it's tarot cards and lines in my hand tell me I'm wrong, not man in the park read the line in my hand... The part about the trip out of town I think has alot to do with his ex trying to help him escape his own missery. In other words the magazine represents what he invisions as happiness and where she is trying to take him, but his depression is prevented it from occurring. The part about I don't have you with but i keep a good attitude, is just he's explanation of trying to cope with his depression and he's loss of his ex. the next part about I know you'd rather see me gone than to see me the way that I am, is his way of justifying his suicidal thoughts to his ex. He knows she cares, and in his mind would she would rather she him at peace instead of depressed. But he is still alive so life goes on as it is anyway. Its a comedy of errors you see, its about taking a fall is referring to the mistakes and/or bad circumstance that have befalling his life because of him, but without his wish, and those errors are driving hime towards suicide, and making him feel it's the right thing to do hence "taking a fall". He immediately goes into say that committing suicide is easy with the line about vanishing into oblivion is to do. And I try to be is referring to him trying to b happy with himself alone, without her, but he can't so he'll come back to her when she want him to because the only escape or relief from his depression and sucidal thoughts is when he is with her. I don't know, that just my take on it, but like I said, find the early version, it will change your thoughts on what it is about and what was written for the movie and so forth. | |
