Love this song. I think it's about someone that is meant for you, but it just isn't working out. The person probably means to the world to you but because things are so bad, you can't love the person the way you want to. You know it's best for you to move on, so you lockdown your emotions so you can try to get over this person. If you don't hide your emotions, then you'll lose yourself. So you hide your emotions from your friends and set a secret code for that person so you can still think about them, but no one else will know. Is it better to be in a rocky relationship with the perfect person? Or hide your feelings from the world? |

I originally thought this song was simply about Trent feeling alone in the world, and "you" was everyone else. He feels like he's the only one in the world without love. After reading the comments, I really like the idea of the song being about God. I think the last section of the song sounds somewhat gospel-choir-ish and that would reflect the message being sent to God. This is an amazing song, whatever the lyrics means. :) |

"Just because I'm hurting Doesn't mean I'm hurt" Love that. The song is confusing though. He initially says he isn't lost, but then later he says he did get lost. I do think it's a song to an ex: You might be a big fish In a little pond Doesn't mean you've won 'Cause a long may come A bigger one The fish is the ex, but a better soulmate (a bigger one) will come. |

I'm gonna agree that the song is about a girl saying "yes" to having sex with him. Yes. Maybe a religious reason, maybe that's they "they" in the following: So up they picked me by the big toe; I was held from the rooftop, then they let it go. It's definitely someone or something stopping him. Looks like his attempts have failed: If there's any screaming let the windows down, as I crawl to the ground. ...The Chinese Sleep Chant is annoying!! |

"The Prefect Drug" is a girl that makes Trent feel like he is under the influence. She makes him feel amazing, but she is addicting (repeatedly mentioning "and i want you) and without her, he has withdrawals. ("Without you, everything falls apart.") Because she's like a drug, she's causing Trent harm. "The more I give to you, the more I die." That's how bad relationships are. You feel like you need the person, but they're actually just causing you harm. Eventually, you can beat the addiction. |

I definitely think this is a follow up to Year Zero's idea of aliens coming and changing/ending human existence. This song is beautiful. "she's mostly gone some other place i'm getting by in other ways" His love is dying, and she's probably incoherent. He's experiencing the same, but he's just managing to survive. "everything they whispered in our ear is coming true" He should have believed the rumors of aliens coming. "try to justify the things i used to do believe in you" I really think that if Trent is putting blame on someone, the "you" here is God. He used to believe that God would protect him, but it looks like He hasn't. "watching you drown i'll follow you down and i am here right beside you" He's watching her die, and he's dying with her. "the lights in the sky have finally arrived i am staying right beside you" The aliens are coming. "i tried to stay away you know just in case i've come to realize we all have our place time has a way you know to make it clear i have my role in this i can't disappear or leave you here" I like the already mentioned idea that he tried to avoid her when she was sick, so he wouldn't get sick too, but he knows he is too and can't leave her. ... "the lights in the sky are waving goodbye i am staying right beside you " The aliens must have come, destroyed everything, and left. |
