There are two people here. People who love the lead singer more than they care about the meaning and people who are hypocrites. Hypocrites because you attack others for not contributing t the discussion of the meaning of the song, but not putting your two cents in. Here is me interpretation. I think he is referencing to the Book of Revelation (BoR) from the Bible and it's description of the last days. It seems he thinks that people are saying that the end of the world is nearing because of all the sin in our lives. Our days are numbered 666 And I'll begin the countdown by calling off the circus Somewhere in these cryptic scriptures I'll find myself drifing in a sky full of He starts counting the days with the number of the devil by calling out that religion means nothing (calling off the circus) and stating that if he considered the Scriptures being right then the world would be a lot worse for him. Scars they cut into you Blisters, rose colored hue Mayday, we're going down Here he describes the world he would see if he believed in the scriptures. These mescaline memories are morose Your kerosene company's comatose Mescaline is a crystalline powder that cause hallucinations. The events in the BoR were dreamed by John, but Zach thinks they are just morose hallucinations that John wrote down. I connect kerosene to fire and think that by kerosene company, he means the religious people who always claim people will burn. He says they are comatose, meaning they aren't functioning for themselves, religion controls them. Our days are numbered 321 And when you bit the bullet I held the smoking gun Somewhere in these violent volumes I'll find myself drifting in a sky full of 321 is really 3-2-1, the end of the countdown. And the big surprise is that nothing happened, so he has effectively killed religion. He makes reference to violent volumes, or the Bible which has many books. He says they are violent because a lot of people disagree over interpretations and it causes contention. And I would stick up half of my cold eye To set you on your head If I were you then I would memorize This loose lipped lullaby instead of waiting, carving out your own I have yet to figure out the first two lines there, but I think his point here is to get the message of the song rather than trying to carve out your own place in heaven. Basically, he thinks religion is crap is what I get out of it. As for how I feel about it, I don't agree with it at all. I'm disappointed with my conclusion because it is such an amazing song. But, it is a hard song to figure out and I hope I'm wrong and that Zach means something else. |

Okay, I can be gentile and say I don't believe in God, but that would be a lie and I know you meant gentle, lol. As for your interpretation, that is exactly what I was thinking. Perhaps his solo effort interfered with Linkin Park and may have been a reason it took so long to get the album out. So to add on to your interpretation as an apology to the band, I think it is possible that he is apologizing to the fans as well for having them wait so long. Good job with your interpretation |

| I agree with two things I've read on these comments. One is that it is some kind of failed friendship and as chirality pointed out, the song is directed to someone he is used to having by his side. That someone may actually be a few people: the former band members. The lead singer (blanking on his name) is the only member left of the original Tantric. Everyone else is new. I cannot wait for the next album, this song is awesome, and I must say, I was not expecting these lyrics to be up so quick, lol. As for a meaning, my first thoughts are a soldier fighting in a war he no longer believes, or possibly it could be more general as just someone who no longer believes in what he was fighting for (doesn't have to be war). He loses that faith because something changes, a new problem, a new divide appears and it is changing his view. I recognize this could be wrong, considering the song just came out, but as long as the discussion for the meaning gets started. Oh, and first comment, lol. |

I agree, it is definitely inspired by The Da Vinci Code, but it's not about the story of it, but the meaning. When two things that make sense collide in religion, sometimes you can't always determine what is right because they both seem right. This conflict can lead to challenges of faith that you have to work through. In this song, it seems that she made a choice of what to believe and it has led her astray. She doesn't feel like it is her fault, but she realizes she has done wrong. This parallels the storyline in The Da Vinci Code where one truth seems to conflict with another truth, and only one is really true, and it causes a question of faith. In the song, after she realizes she was wrong to go the way she did, she wants to be forgiven, she wants to come back to God (or whoever she believes in), but she isn't sure if she can. A very important word to understand is beast. In the Bible, the Book of Revelations, there is a beast that is talked about. This beast is a symbol of the AntiChrist, who is going to perform miracles and claim to be Christ (claim to be the right way) when really, he is not. She fears she was deceived by an AntiChrist, and now she wants to come back to the true Christ. I hope that satisfies some people. |

Songs like this, I usually try to find a hidden meaning, like maybe the song uses sex as a metaphor, which is the case a lot of the time. This one obviously is not the case, it's just about sex with his new significant other. For those who may not know, Wayne has a new wife or something, I can't remember. Her name is Tera Wray, and he uses her name in the title, sort of like him having sex with her is like being Tera-fied, he's coming closer to her. |

You are all close to the meaning for this song. It is about drug abuse, but your mistake is that Chi is very much related to the song. I'm not claiming to know much, but I just read from an interpretation on Deftone's Beware that Chi was in a really bad drunk driving accident and in a coma, hanging by a thread for his life. That post was a reply to someone else on 02-04-2009. I think that Korn knew about Chi's destructive behaviors and they named this song (about destructive behaviors) after Chi. Kind of eerie thinking about it, isnt it? |

I mean I don't listen to their music all the time, I find it hard to, but of the songs I know and like, they are very deep, with such meaning behind the words. For this song to be about sex is too simple for SOAD. It's not their style. Look at any song and you will see that there is a very deep, insightful meaning in each song. I never thought I could get into the band, but I am starting to because of songs like this which sound bad, but for everyone more intelligent than sex, they can see what is really being said here. Your argument would make sense if REIGN was the word they were using, but they obviously put RAIN in the album lyrics, so I highly doubt that it's about any specific form of government whatsoever (republican, democrat, etc), and I really don't see much in the song that backs up your argument. I'm not sure you know what you're talking about concerning preservation. Also, something to note, is martyr does mean someone who endures a lot of suffering, but an alternate meaning is someone who suffers for the sake of a belief, so regardless of what he's talking about in the song, the fact that no one agrees with keeps alive (preserves) that suffering. As for what Corey is arguing, I can see how government does get tied in, as the Iraqi war is referenced to, and not everyone likes how our government went in (which does create bias because those people prefer to see anti-Bush, republican, etc media forms, such as songs.) That said, I think war is more of Corey's message, where RAIN (the actual word used, it's kind of important) would fit better, and how war is going to hurt the world, and eventually kill us all, but no one recognizes that yet. The title also fits my argument better. I have a better definition of psychosocial now. It is the psychological development in and interaction with the social environment. The new generations are developing in environments where people keep going off to war and killing others, breeding hatred of others in various places of the earth. These generations will grow with this hate and eventually apply it in war with the hated nations and it will create a cycle of people killing each other (with a RAIN of bullets/weapons) that will kill us all. To summarize, Corey sings about how war is going to continue because of psychosocial trends, some of which are caused by the government, I will add, but it's not totally an attack on any specific government institutions. |

This is my second attempt at writing the comment, because the first time, I noticed something that changed the song to me. I agree with the getting over his alcoholism interpretation, but I think it's deeper than that. Could this song possibly be an attempt to fix things with Amy Lee? "I find it hard to live with all my choices" Alcoholism cost him his relationship with Amy Lee and it's hard to live with the pain from that "It's time to turn a deaf ear to those voices" He doesn't want to listen to her song, Call Me When You're Sober, anymore because it reminds him of that pain "Did you ever think to ask my opinion (Yeah!) Did you ever think to ask if I'm ok" This could be intended to make her feel guilty or sympathetic, realizing that she didn't do all she could to help him out. Then the chorus goes like this: "I burned down every bridge that I found" Again, alcoholism cost him his relationship with Amy Lee "Now I limit myself to a six gun quota" A response to Call Me When You're Sober, saying he is getting better. I played down every feeling I felt and I bottled them up til the well ran over" His explanation (or excuse) for his problem "It feels so good to be numb Whoa-oh I hate what I have become Whoa-oh it feel so good to be numb (Whoa-oh)" That part is just a continuation of his excuses. That's what I get out of this song. Anyone is welcome to add to it if they find something else. |

Well what does rain mean? In the movie Transformers, the term "bring the rain" basically meant bomb them. In that sense, I interpret as we are warring all the time, and with war comes better weaponry and more destructive tools. It seems to me that he is saying that all of this war is going to kill us all, which will happen before we realize we need to fix it, but the dead can't do anything about it. He uses modern day examples to convey his point. Psychosocial is the interaction of psychological and social factors. Our social interactions are hate towards others, we hate others which leads to the behavior (psychology is the study of behavior) to kill off everyone else, which leads into what I have said in the previous paragraph. That's my opinion. |

I can see a double meaning here. The first being about Layne and his death, his middle name being Thomas and this song written to Thomas. Maynard wants to forgive him for what he did, but he also wants to be forgiven for not helping Thomas. The second meaning is Maynard comparing himself to Thomas-from-the-Bible on the means of doubt. He doubts he can find the way to forgive and be forgiven on his own, like Thomas doubted Jesus' resurrection. So Maynard is asking to be shown the way to forgive and be forgiven so he can believe, like Thomas wanted to see Jesus before he believed. In both cases, they "asked for a vision." |

It's taken a while but I think I have my own interpretation of the song. This is what I can see. The character in the song is living in a world where right and wrong has been blurred in his eyes. He can't tell what each is, though it is harder to find something truly good. Nobody is there to help him understand what is right, so he is "Helpless and left for dead." He believes in the devil, and he knows that the devil lies, and some things which are completely wrong, but there is something that he wants to do where right and wrong are blurred together, and if he does it, he probably won't stay in the world. Then in the chorus he is singing on behalf of the world, telling them to say goodbye to anything they need to as they dance with the devil, or do something that is possibly wrong, warning them that if they look in the eyes of the devil, or they really are doing something they aren't supposed to do. In the middle section, he is telling the world to hold on to what they believe so they don't get lost to the devil. At the end, he whispers goodbye, either as he is joining this movement, or saying goodbye to people who will undoubtedly look in the eyes of the devil. To sum it up, he is warning the world that the devil exists and he is putting a lot of wrongs into the world so to live, we have to dance with the devil without becoming a part of the devil by holding onto what we know is good. |

I originally thought click, click, BOOM was symbolizing a gun. Then I heard the pen metaphor, and I must say, I love it. But I have my own theory about the song that maybe click click BOOM is a double meaning for both the pen and a gun. As a pen, click click BOOM does stand for writing those lyrics. As a gun, click click BOOM stands for his lyrics being his weapon for leaving the [radio] scene in devastation. He doesn't like the other bands and the complaining on their CDs about their troubles and he wants to bring new music in to get rid of all this crap. He says he will do this with his songs and his lyrics (click click BOOM: pen) as his weapon (click click BOOM: gun) to come out on top. I hope that makes sense, I had trouble writing it. I'm interested to know if anyone can see it like I do from this interpretation. |

Everybody says that one line, "You better start to love her" should be changed, but if you listen close enough you can hear him say "start to". I will agree, it does sound like fucking, which would fit well with the song, but not with their music. As far as I know, they've have not used those words in their music. well, there some parts that are just a li'l bit confusing, but i get the feeling its sort of like Guarded. He can't find love because of the touring with the band, it would just be too hard to maintain the relationship. So when he does find a relationship, he knows it probably wont work, he's only going to hurt the person he is with, and he feels like a criminal when this happens. He suffers when their alone, knowing it wont last. So he's in this relationship, feeling like a criminal, so he has the mission of ending the relationship ("closing the door"), as much as it hurts him to do it. He doesn't want to know the painful world that will be the result of breaking up, (sending the message). He doesn't want her to tell him he can't go, and this kind of thing seems to be a reoccurance "wound that wont mend). Now instead of doing this, he would rather die (the end quicken). i could be wrong, but this is what mostly makes sense to me. there are some parts that are confusing though |

I believe that this is David talking to himself. Because he is in a band, and touring, he can't get in a solid relationship, its too hard. He has to keep, or guard, himself from the love of another, so no one gets hurt, but that also leaves him with nothing. If he does get in another relationship, "broke through the wall" he knows its "damned" because "fate wont compromise." He has to "sever ties" to keep from falling into what he regards as an impossible love "You did decide" He chose to be a rockstar, and in a way chose not to have love. |
