I think it's about a couple that has been arguing. She wants to just quit fighting and make up, but she doesn't know how. I'm thinking she was planning to set everything right at this party, but she just can't find the words. She's trying to buy time, but maybe she's bad at conflict? "Honey, the party went away quickly But oh, that's the trouble with ticking and tocking I lick the ice cubes from your empty glass Oh, we've stayed much too late 'til they're cleaning the ashtrays" The couple were at this party and she was going to bring something up, but she couldn't do it successfully and is running out of time. Even the details, "I lick the ice cubes...", she's trying to buy time even by finishing his already-finished drink. "Do you have change or a button or cash? Oh, my pockets hang out like two surrender flags Oh, but I'd pay anything to keep my conscience clean Keeping my eye on the exits, I'm steady now" Her pockets hanging out like surrender flags is kind of what made me think that they fought and she wants to just make it right. I always thought it was "I'd pay anything to keep my conscience clean OF keeping my eyes on the exit signs". As in she wants to talk but she's scared and she kind of just wants to run from the whole situation. "How did we get here? With creaks in these chairs Oh there aren't enough hands to point all the fingers" This kind of adds to the theory of them arguing, who is to blame, etc. "But I sit transfixed by a hole in your t-shirt Oh I've said much too much and they're trying to sweep up" Even more beautiful details. Basically, I see this as: they should be leaving now. The place is closing but she still has yet to settle everything. The "Party" could also just be a metaphor for their relationship as a whole. I still think it'd mean things haven't been right between them. In this case though, I'm thinking it means she wants to set things right, but the relationship is ending anyway. BEAUTIFUL song, one of my favorites. Even if my analysis is wrong lol. |

amazing amazing amazing song. i think its about two people that were in a relationship that failed. they're right for each other, but its just bad timing. so he's saying come back to me at a later point in time. and in the meantime, i'll fix myself to be perfect for you, because i want a perfect relationship. or something? a lot of the songs on the album almost border on codependency. i think this kind of adds to that. |

i think that this is about two friends that have always known each other, but now she sees him in a new light or "colour", and she now realizes she's always liked him. i think the "you coloured for me" is more like "you, coloured for me". as in, you're that way for me. am i off? lol probably. but i'd like to think this is the meaning lol. i think it could be taken a lot of different ways. btw, this song is pure brilliance and beauty. |

back when the album first came out, I thought immediately it was about the death if a loved one. and it probably is. however going solely based off the video, it could also be about someone leaving you, intentionally. as in a break up. the person giving the bad news could be the person doing the dumping. I think it could be about how when we're in relationships, we tend to make the person we're with everything. so then when they leave, we're left empty, wondering what the hell is gonna happen to me now that they're gone, not really considering the possibility that they needed to leave. however, this break up theory doesn't make sense where the "although he was imitated often" part comes in lol |

| Black Kids – Hurricane Jane Lyrics | 17 years ago |

i read in an interview what this song is about: “Hurricane Jane” is a song that took a couple of years to become what it is now. I often try to develop little stories for each song. I had this idea of these upper-class kids that would go to the ghetto and treat it as their playground. You know, fuck shit up without consequence. You know, not worrying about consequences but relying on their money to get them out of whatever. I’m not sure where I got this idea from. Maybe it was just from going out and seeing kids like this in areas where they don’t belong. They feel like they own everything. It went from that, this club culture type thing and I personalized it more by boiling down to a guy and a girl and taking all the social shit out of it. It took forever because it evolved from one thing into a pop song about a guy and a girl. so from that, im thinking jane is maybe a popular girl or something and she goes around treating guys the way she wants, not really caring if they get hurt. but then there's this guy (reggie, i guess) that thinks even though she goes around and does this stuff, he should still give her a chance cause "he thinks it's gonna be worth it". -not every song with the name "jane" in it is about drugs guys. |

| i was just about to say what danvalicevic and ssk said. lol. i totally agree and i got it the first time i heard it. when i first heard the beginning of the song, i was like "is this really lupe? flaunting and crap?" and then i heard the last verse and it all made sense. how all that cool stuff he has isn't what makes him cool. just another good example of how the clothes really don't make the man. | |

yah, i get what you're saying, bukko. but i think this is one of those songs that could mean lots of things. i think it's simply about underestimating yourself because of what the world sees as "cool". in any case, i like the literal meaning the best: where he tries and he gets the girl. this is an amazingly sweet song by an amazing rapper. i love it. |
