The Four Winds - A. Crowley THE South wind said to the palms: My lovers sing me psalms; But are they as warm as those That Laylah's lover knows? The North wind said to the firs: I have my worshippers; But are they as keen as hers? The East wind said to the cedars: My friends are no seceders; But is their faith to me As firm as his faith must be? The West wind said to the yews: My children are pure as dews; But what of her lover's muse? So to spite the summer weather The four winds howled together. But a great Voice from above Cried: What do you know of love? Do you think all nature worth The littlest life upon earth? {179} I made the germ and the ant, The tiger and elephant. In the least of these there is more Than your elemental war. And the lovers whom ye slight Are precious in my sight. Peace to your mischief-brewing! I love to watch their wooing. Of all this Laylah heard Never a word. She lay beneath the trees With her lover at her knees. He sang of God above And of love. She lay at his side Well satisfied, And at set of sun They were one. Before they slept her pure smile curled; "God bless all lovers in the World!" And so say I the self-same word; Nor doubt God heard. |

Ezekiel 37:9 - Then said he unto me, Prophesy unto the wind, prophesy, son of man, and say to the wind, Thus saith the Lord GOD; Come from the four winds, O breath, and breathe upon these slain, that they may live. From Wikipedia: "Within the system of Thelema founded by Aleister Crowley in 1904, the Holy Guardian Angel is the "Silent Self", representative of one's truest divine nature."... "Even though the HGA is, in a sense, the “higher self”, it is often experienced as a separate being, independent from the adept. In the system of Thelema, the single most important goal is to consciously connect with one’s HGA, a process termed “Knowledge and Conversation.” By doing so, the magician becomes fully aware of his own True Will." I'm still working on "dimensional key" maybe the Key of Solomon? |

| This is full of pagan imagery. Druids celebrate summer solstice in oak graves and stone circles. At the same time, the "one light" bit sounds like tyeing in some more monotheistic elements to its pagan roots. But I sort of feel like British druids have a patriarchal/monotheistic feel to their ceremonies. So I'll go with the druid interpretation. | |

| I love the line "Hail the gift of memory in this fifty-second state". This is him saying that people are being too easily deceived by their government, because they are not paying attention or remembering events from one minute to the next. | |
| Robert Plant – The Enchanter Lyrics | 17 years ago |
| It is a very pagan song, and the imagery of the sun is a running theme on the album. Possibly being enchanted by the Goddess Herself? | |
| Robert Plant – Freedom Fries Lyrics | 17 years ago |
| Well its an anti-war song playing on the phenomenon of people renaming french fries "freedom fries" during the anti-french reaction when France denounced the war in Iraq. Plant uses metaphor heavily and I wish more people commented on his recent stuff. | |
| Robert Plant – Another Tribe Lyrics | 17 years ago |
| He's using religious imagery, probably because its very powerful and meaningful to people. Lots of musicians do that though, and to me it doesn't sound religious here. Sounds like he's saying that religion is causing war. He wants to reach across the divisions being created by religion and propaganda. | |

| I agree with phubans. Some of McCrea's songs do make me think he's an intelligent, eco-friendly satanist. I don't buy into the judeo-christian satan concept, but I am ok with satanists who aren't in it for the shock effect. Another song that brings this to mind is Sheep go to Heaven. But on the other hand, he seems to use metaphor heavily in certain songs, so this might be about something else. | |

| Toby is the baby's real name, Toby Froud, the son of the insanely talented artist Brian Froud. And for all you crotch-watchers, check out this site I found: http://www.areaology.com/area.html | |
| David Bowie – Chilly Down Lyrics | 17 years ago |
| Firey number four was played by Danny John Jules, the Cat on the classic space-comedy "Red Dwarf". DJJ is a genius who should be recognized for his talents and not given stupid one-line parts in Blade sequels. Unemployment eats your brain. This is my excuse. | |
| Oingo Boingo – Not My Slave Lyrics | 17 years ago |
| This song has a deep meaning for me. I'm not saying it is what elfman intended, but maybe. To me it is the love song that God or the universe is singing to all people. In that context it is super-empowering. | |

| AFI – Miss Murder Lyrics | 17 years ago |
| I don't know if its Hitler or Mishima or Cobain or what. If its Hitler, the golden ring could be from Wagner's ring-cycle, as Wagner was supposed to be a nazi sympathizer. Personally, I think it was Ziggy Stardust. | |

I'm gonna go esoteric with this one... We, the fans, are the bitches. Cause we get off on MSI penetrating our ear-holes. Shit, we pay money for it, we want it so bad. And why? I saw their style described as industrial jungle pussy punk. I think if you break that down you get this song. The industrial aspect is the rock, and I think we can agree they are hardcore, high-energy, and the metal-heads can get their adrenaline rush no problem. Jungle, well I have no idea what style of music that might be, but he says he can rhyme and I'll agree with Saint that the music sounds like it does draw heavily on rap influences. Pussy is obvious. There is a consistent stream of sexual references in the lyrics of MSI songs, which, given the name of the group, is not surprising. Thus the comment about fucking. The final bit about being on time would correspond to the punk aspect of the music, as modern punk can be characterized by a tight clean sound, as opposed to punks' less overproduced origins. So this song describes their style, throughout all their (musical) projects. Bitches. |
