Flogging Molly – Drunken Lullabies Lyrics 15 years ago
This song isn't about the Irish struggle for independence, it is about the Catholic-Protestant troubles that have plagued the country for a long time (though of course nationalism and religion are linked). '500 years' is roughly the amount of time since the Catholic-Protestant split, the English have been in Ireland for much longer than that.

Glasvegas – Go Square Go! Lyrics 17 years ago
I'm not so sure that we are meant to be sympathetic to the father figure who pressures his own son in to a fight with someone (presumably) bigger than him.
he seems to have some sort of macho-complex which he is trying to hoist on to his timid son.

just my interpretation though

Morrissey – I've Changed My Plea To Guilty Lyrics 17 years ago
To kuronekoyama 'dock' refers to the dock in court (linked to the guilty plea) so the drowning theory loses its credability.

However, the rest of what you say is interesting and definately fits in with Morrisseys ironic humour as it would mean that the Moz is only sarcastically admitting his guilt. If it's true, then trust Morrissey turn such a tragic sounding song into a humorous one.

My hunch though is that the 'you' referred to in the song is society, and the 'crime' Morrissey is admitting to is the one of not conforming to its rules. (eg, shyness -'its safer to be inside'; not taking an interest in the hystrionics of relationships - 'emotional air-raid' and not committing to a monogomous relationship 'everybody's got somebody')

cheers and comment back
