no OnlyByTheNight, its not about Caleb being lonely now that Nathan is married. what really happened was, wehn they were recording, they all got blind and Caleb was drinking whisky all day. When he sung this song he had no idea what he was doing he just sang, and the next day they played it to him and he cried because he couldnt even remember recording it and said that it was one of the saddest things hed ever heard. |

| Bright Eyes – Four Winds Lyrics | 17 years ago |

i can finally comment on this song because i think i get it. i did some research sort of on all the things in the song and all the references and such and this is what im getting from the song; the song symbolises the belief that western civilisation is reaching a "terminal point", like in the poem "the second coming" by W.B Yeats. the four winds part is referring to chapter 37 of ezekiel ( i know bible stories sound boring but this one is really interesting) where god breaths four winds into dead bones and brings life to them again. The song is mostly about what western civilisation has made the world and how faith and religion have contibuted greatly to all fighting and war, making the world the horrible place it can sometimes be. in the last verse, i think conor is expressing the way he has put himself at peace by attending the cassadaga spiritualist camp, despite all the shit that still occurs in the world around him. in short, i think the song describes the way western civilisation can only advance, and will eventually destroy itself from all the war occuring. i didnt even think i could get that much out of one song, but thats what i got and its probably not right but i dont care. thanks heaps heaps heaps conor for such a brilliant piece of art. |
