I thought it may mean that there's a women, Karen, [who I thought was Caroline but am evidently wrong] who was in love with the same man as Prescilla. and Karen was trying to settle down because she was a gypsy, not in a literal sense, but somewhat so. And wanted a normal lifestyle. And the narrorator was trying to convince perscilla that Karen loves the guy. |
