FYI the entire title is Smart Went Crazy (The Beauty Pill). Smart Went Crazy was an idie rock band from D.C. After they broke up some members formed The Beauty Pill. The album is also dedicated to The Beauty Pill. (among others) My take on him saying "Smart Went Crazy" in the song is just an inside way for him to represent a band that he likes. Or maybe as others said he just likes to call himself "Smart". |

This song is about a kid getting bored of his friends and going to find something else to do... and that just happens to be a girl. "i can't stand standing here like this and i can't take taking any of this talk serious." This is him getting tired of just shooting the breeze with his friends. They like to talk, but not to do a lot. So he splits ties and heads out. He ends up at a gas station or something and decides he wants to get drunk. I picture an underaged kid around 16. He doesn't have a lot of money so he grabs some boones. He gets lucky and the clerk doesn't ask for an I.D. so he walks out. He sees a girl he knows and they walk home, flirt and drink. "we're trying so hard to forget who we are." I think maybe they were from different social groups. Maybe she was a cheerleader or something and he was less popular, so they spend the night trying to forget who they are. At least thats what I get from it. |

This song is about a kid who feels alone because his parents are never around.His parents always left him with some guy that was uber christian and he wasn;t to happy about it. His parents always fucked him over by leaving without him, and it got to the point where he hated them. He wouldn't get up to see them in the mornings before school, and when they got home they would knock on the door to his room but he ignored them. So their leaving again and he get stuck at home. He'll get another shitty souvenir, and and they'll have all the memories. Even though he hates them for always leaving him, like every neglected kid, he just wants them to spend some time with him. At least thats what I get from it. |
