Coldplay – Viva la Vida Lyrics 17 years ago
I agree alot with the7keys on ths one - the song is about revolutions - not a specific event of revolution. The artwork on the front is called Liberty leading the People by Delacoix (I was lucky enough to study it this year!), which is a depiction of the French Revolution indeed, and this has led to some speculation avout the song being about Napoleon and his downfall.
However, I really can't see how this can be about any particular revolution, as there just isn't enough in the lyrics to pinpoint it. I think the song is just highlighting the repetition of history - "isn't life just a series of images that change as they repeat themselves?"
The events of revolutions are similar (in very foundation terms).. someone is in power, people rebel against that power, and sooner or later that power falls. It can be seen everywhere in life on large or small scales. For example, you could apply the lyrics to Hitler's rise and fall, or to that of once/famous celebrities if you're lookign for a more modern context.
I think that there are some lyrics that may be allusions to the bible's text, however, I think this kind of imagery and allusions are just used to add grace to the lyrics and to emphasise the epic feeling of falling from the top, so to speak. It also, as the7keys mentioned, helps to glorify and "celebrate" revolutions.
Well, think that's all!

Damien Rice – Be My Husband (Nna Simone cover) Lyrics 17 years ago
Song was written by Nina Simone. Jeff Buckley's cover on Live at Sin-e is a great one (love that man) but Lisa's version is good too. Different, very tribal definitely, but good.

Yes, this song is also is Goodbye Lenin. Both Amelie and Goodbye Lenin are personal favourites of mine, and both have fantastic soundtracks! Love it!

Damien Rice – Cannonball Lyrics 17 years ago
This song to me is about Damien figuring out what he wants of the relationship he's in. Damien suggests that he doesn't trust her (perhaps she has been unfaithful and he is trying to forgive her) yet wants to forgive and love her again: "there's still a little bit of your ghost
your weakness
there's still a little bit of your face
I haven't kissed". In other words, despite her flaws, he still misses her.

She ovbiously wants to be with him as she "steps a little closer each day", however this is crowding his thinking over the relationship: "so close that I can't see what's going on".

"so come on courage
teach me to be shy
...i dont want to scare her
...I dont want to lose"
I think this is referring again to his inner conflict (as do all the ironic lyrics in the song): "courage" needing to "teach" him to be shy, not wanting to scare her is perhaps hiding his anger for her unfaithfulness for fear he might scare her off while he is still in love with her. "Shy" could also mean closing up a little to her, perhaps not trusting her again, simply because he doesn't want to be hurt again ("lose").

He ends the song just as confused as when he entered it - just knowing that he doesn't know what to do or think.

God, I love Damien Rice!
