totally agree. It's about needing something big to happen in order to be shaken out seemingly unending apathy.

The Spill Canvas – The Tide Lyrics 16 years ago
whether the tide was metaphorical or not, I always tear up when it gets to the part about the children being swept away, and mother not even noticing.
This song is so amazing because it targets real human emotions thru the kids. Dade is the one that ponders life and its meaning. Vada shows the dissatisfaction many people have about themselves. Veronica is the one that seems content with who she is, but wants the "worldly" experiences. The mom is the one that has been hurt and carries an unmendable wound in her heart.
In a broader sense, the song reminds me that no matter what personality we have or what walks of live we're in: we can all suffer from neglect. We can all be swept away by the tide.

Carolina Liar – Show Me What I'm Looking For Lyrics 17 years ago
totally agree. It doesn't have to be anyone in particular. the singer might just want anyone or anything to give him hope and guidance. Just because the word Lord or God is in the lyrics doesn't mean it's a worship song. It can be if that's what you want it to be though. I've been on both sides of the spectrum: from strongly and almost radically believing in God to believing that we're all on our own, no God no nothing. But I still capitalize the words because 1. it might be the polite thing to do and 2. I use it as a proper noun. overall I think this is just a song where the singer writes about wanting help.

Flobots – Handlebars Lyrics 17 years ago
If any of you have seen the movie V for Vendetta, it gives you a good visual meaning. It's what happens when people don't control their government. America's whole system of government is suppose be people's choice. That's why we elect our leaders, they're supposed to do what we, the one's who elected them, want them to do. Yes they might have a better plan, and it may work out in the end, but for the most part we have the power.
This strays from the what the meaning of the song is but I'm on a roll right now....
When our elected leaders do what we want them do things turn out ok. But how do we know which leader to choose if they don't tell us what they planned so we can match their plan with ours. Example: OBAMA.
Does anyone know where he stands on anything?...Prolife? Prochoice?....will he raise taxes? Does he support our troops in this war? What about childrens education?
What is his SOLID opinion and plan on the important issue that this country faces today. I've heard too many people say that they'll vote for him, and the only reason they give as to why is because he makes great speeches.
Someone please give me more as to why so many people like this male paris hilton (except he's not any where near as stupid). And don't say it's because he's the modern JFK. If you'll notice Obama's solgan it's Change that works for you. Last time I check JFK's main quote was It's not what your country can do for you, but what you can do for your country.

Coldplay – Violet Hill Lyrics 17 years ago
I haven't listened to the song a lot so I understand if you care for my comment.
It does seem to be about a corrupt society, and how our leaders aren't what they seem.

That's just what I got on face value.

Coldplay – Viva la Vida Lyrics 17 years ago
It seems to me that this could be a literal song about a historic revolution or a personal revolution. He could have been at his zenith, on top of the world. He could have felt like a king. But maybe something happened. Maybe in a relationship or a business standpoint, like CEO of something. But when he was "dethroned" he realized that his power was just an illusion. The people he trusted to give an honest opinion of his work were just sucking up to him.
I could be wrong. To me it just seems more personal then a historic event.

John Mayer – Say Lyrics 17 years ago
Oh my gosh, every time I hear
"Walkin' like a one man army
Fightin' with the shadows in your head"
and
"Even if your hands are shaking
And your faith is broken"
It makes me cry.
This song, to me, is as clear as sunny day. Say what you need to say. That could mean telling someone how much you love them or, if you're like me, talking to a friend about a hard time you're going through. For the past 3 months I've felt like I've been on my own. I'm not worthy enough anymore for even God to help me. I was bitter at the world, my friends who I thought abandoned me, and my family. It wasn't until recently that I've started coming out of my empty shell. I had gotten so used to fighting the demons in my head alone for so long, I thought a could handle it. I thought I was truely happy when I was alone, now I know I was wrong. I still haven't told my friends everything. But slowly, I've opened up.
Thanks John Mayer

Switchfoot – This Is Home Lyrics 17 years ago
For me, it a song that reminds you of the one place you hold in her heart and call home, whether it be a mindset or actually place.
When I heard for the first time, I though of my old house that I lived in for 16 years. Now when I hear it , I travel back through that house in mind, remembering the 'good old days'. My whole childhood and the begininng of my stupid teenage years were in that house. And since no one really knows what heaven is like, I like to picture me going back to live in my house again. Basicly, it's super uper good welcome home song.

Regina Spektor – The Call Lyrics 17 years ago
This song is so personal. It can mean anything to anyone.
For me, it reminds of my church camp. The feeling there was unforgetable. When I hear this song, it reminds of that peaceful feeling. And even a lot of people forget the bonding and blissful serenity, I won't
Now we're back to the beginning
It's just a feeling and no one knows yet
But just because they can't feel it too
Doesn't mean that you have to forget

That's just what it means to me. The song was suppose to go with the movie (in which Ben Barnes was totally gorgeous), but what good is song if we can't mirror it with our own lives.
