when i first heard this song i thought that it might be about a girl that just entered this whole new world of fancy travels and ivy league college life, and that the narrorator was someone who was noticing that she had a'new face', as in she was different, because of this new world of hers. ^sorry that was such a run on setence. Anyways English breakfast tastes like Darjeeling But she's too cute to even ask I interpreted this as she's too shy, too nice (not snotty) to correct the waitress on her tea. And then, Nastiness will cause your doom Turn and walk back to your room This is a warning from the narrorator saying, stay nice, don't become snotty and conceited even though your in this fancy luxe world. However, the last line of this song (which i truly love) doesn't seem to fit well with my theory. Oh your collegiate grief has left you dowdy in sweatshirts Absolute horror! Actually, I guess I just don't really understand this line. What exactly is his/ her collegiate grief in this song? |

i love the OC, and i probably would never have found out about this song about it. but anyways, i don't doubt that this song is about nuclear war, but how? i can't find any references to nuclear war in this... |

i looked on VW's website and it has the lyrics like this: Then I see you You're walking cross the campus Cruel professor Studying romances How am I supposed to pretend I never want to see you again? How am I supposed to pretend I never want to see you again? Because there's no comma, i think this means that he really likes the girl, but for some reason he has to pretend to hate her. Maybe this is the morning after a break up with the girl. Both of them are dragging their feet, so maybe they both had rough nights after the break up (they both feel bad about it)? or maybe they both just had "late" nights. |
