Ladytron – Playgirl Lyrics 17 years ago
Based off a quick google search, Alphaline is fromerly a train service used in regional parts of the UK including Liverpool, home of the 'tron.

...Yeah, I've read that they were rather trashy as I researched it more.

New Order – Dreams Never End Lyrics 17 years ago
...actually, I think this song is kind of an apology to the demise of Joy Division and a reassurance that the dream of their vision will live on in New Order. Which they made good on, yes?

New Order were huge fans of the author JG Ballard. The guy who wrote "Crash". "The Him" is a fictitious band that would periodically appear in the context of Ballard's novels. I had read somewhere that they referenced his works frequently in their rather esoteric lyrics and my guess is that "the him" is a Ballard homage. As for what the rest of the song is about I can't help you.

Front 242 – GVDT Lyrics 17 years ago
Wait, we know 242 is Belgian, and that GVDT is an initial. So, knowing this, I'd say the V.D. is a "Van Der", because I think the Belgians use that heavily in their surnames. So, it's G. Van Der T..

Sound good so far?

Front 242 – GVDT Lyrics 17 years ago
Considering this is early 80's 242, it probably has some military/Cold War theme. With that, I'd say it is about some deep cover agent that has to meet-up with some contact assignment, but his details are fuzzy at best as he has not fully "awakened" from his sleeper. Basically a cat-and-mouse relationship. As for what GVDT stands for, I can't even find it on Google.

I'd agree with the stripper theory. She sounds like someone I know who is.

I'm not a Brit, so I am not too familiar with "Alpha Lines" and such, but...I think the song is more literal and concrete in meaning. Poetic, but less figurative.

Northern Lights as coke-Yep.

Foreign coin/Telephone Box-She visits clients out of the club for "extras" and doesn't use her own number so she hooks-up with them via public means. The foreign coin could be metaphorical or a poetic snippet in her observations while she is waiting for a "John" to answer.

Empty seat/Alpha Line-This is where she meets-up with her clients and the empty seat will be soon occupied by said client. Again in a public anonymous place.

Question Mark/Calendar-On her day "off" she has no clients or club commitments (probably a "subsistence stripper") and since her life is all party/drugs/trickin', she knows nothing else to do.

Sorting Code/Account Number.-This is easy. They are wire transfers from various tricks who deposit money into her account anonymously for "services rendered".
