| For the love of god when are these lyrics going to be corrected? They're terrible. | |

I think that this definitely has something to do with Catholicism...not necesarrily in a modern context, but the change it experienced throughout its history. Well here are the lines that indicate a reference to Christianity: "Hear Jerusalem bells a'ringin" "I know St. Peter won't call my name" And the line about pillars of salt probably refers to the story in the old testament when Lot's wife was turned into a pillar of salt because she didn't obey God. The idea of the castle built on salt/sand is a reference to the parable in the new testament about the house that was built on sand collapsing. This combines might mean something like "I didn't have enough faith, so the things I had made collapsed". This part: "It was a wicked and wild wind Blew down the doors to let me in Shattered windows and the sound of drums People couldn’t believe what I’d become Revolutionaries wait For my head on a silver plate" Seems to me to be about the reformation, when the people rebelled against the corrupt practices of the Catholic Church (i.e. indulgences) and formed their own churched. ("they couldn't believe what [the church] had become.) |
